Hi all:
This is me...31 year old, wife, and mother of 3. I never really thought of my teeth as being bad..but I started suffering from toothaches and having issues as early as 9 or 10. I was from a very small town in South Carolina that none of you could possibly know of. One stop light...no, maybe 3, 2 grocery stores, 3 gas stations, one preschool, elementary, jr high and high school, and ONE dentist...well, atleast there was one when all of my aches and pains started...
Like I said, I started having cavities and problems at a young age. I remember one day my jaw was so swollen and deformed on one side that my teacher actually asked if I was okay..well, that is when my mom realized she may actually need to get me seen...Come to find out that I had a really horrible absess and cavity on my bottom right molar..like the third from the back...well...the dentist performed a root canal and gave me a temporary filling and scheduled me to return for the real deal...only thing is...he killed himself before I could ever see him again...wow...this was terrible...not only did he take his own life, but he also robbed our little town of the only dentist we had...it was quite sad...but this was the start of a domino effect on my teeth up until now.
We weren't rich and my dad left my mom with 5 kids as she was returning to college to try and make a decent life for us...I went on with life with the temporary filling and cant remember when it got to the point where it fell completely out..i think it came out little by little and eventually the tooth got really bad and had to be removed. Fast forward...i got older and got married and became pregnant...when pregnant, vitamin deficiency is common and my teeth took a beating for it...i broke one tooth on a piece of salisbury steak and with my second pregnancy, my husband got me a $5 foot long and didnt inform me that he put cucumber slices on it..i never get those on my sandwich!!!! but my poor teeth couldnt handle the crunch and I cracked yet another tooth...all of these missing teeth caused my remaining teeth to spread and gap and form crossbites and so many issues...
Fast forward...here I am...31 years old with braces...My husband is a landscaper and I found a really great orthodontist on craigslist who was looking for some work to be done at her new home...SCORE! So this is how I am able to get everything I need done...quite honestly, she is getting so much work done that the barter could cover me to get most of the yanked out and get screw-ins, but I opted to be patient and work with what God gave me...I want my natural, real teeth to look good...i know it's really vanity, and I may be a little older to be finally doing something about it..but I don't care...It means a lot to me..so anyways..I got them put on about 2 years ago, but as soon as I got braced, we moved away for a year and so was not getting adjustments until we moved back here...so it started on June of 2008 and I really have only had them regularly adjusted from November of 2009 up until now which is February 2011..so that is really only about a year and 3 months of care...just recently at my last appointment my dentist posed that she extract my premolars so that she can fix the overjet issue that I have. My teeth were so gapped that I only cared about closing the spaces...but now overjetting has come to light...I didnt know if it could be fixed but thank God it can..and I have looked at others who have done this same procedure with much success and beautiful results....so I am hoping and praying that mine will look just as good....loving this site...I hope some of you will read my story and share some of your similar experiences...this is getting toooooo long..so I will end it here for now...what can I say..it's been a long time coming, but I know it will be worth it!
I know it's Vanity, but I don't Care...lol
