Hi all

I had my upper aligner fitted 4 days ago. This forum is so great - really reassuring for newbies to aligners. I had my first day of work today since having them fitted. I am lisping quite badly and can't wear them all the time as l'm a nurse and haver to speak to patients in clinic setting about serious health problems so don't think it's professional to wear them in that scenario - however l had a quieter afternoon today so braved it and wore the aligner. I suffered some light hearted teasing from colleagues and did talk to patients apologising for my speech but l did get by. I generally find it quite comfortable and can feel the pressure resting on my front tooth. First check up is in couple of weeks, already had some teeth shaving and have the composite buttons on my front tooth. It's great to hear how everyone is getting on. Will post again after the check up.
Lordlolz i was the same. They werent too bad, they didnt make me not ever want to smile. Everyone i spoke to at work hadnt even noticed. It just always bothered me slightly. I got to the point where either i did something about it, or i just needed to get over it. I went for the former!

Went back for my 2.5 week check up today. My dentist was really surprised and pleased with how much they've moved. My front two were quite overlapped to begin with and now they are straight. Rather embarrasingly i hadnt noticed at all! He got the pictures up to show me and they really have moved quite a lot! Not sure why i couldnt see it myself! Could not remember what they looked like before!

So i had more filing done. I hate it so much. Its so brutal! My gums got cut to shreds! Doesnt hurt though. I just hate the feeling. Back in 2.5 weeks and feeling very positive. Knowing they have moved already just makes it all so worth it.
Thanks Lilpickle, glad you're going OK, agghh!! will definitely wait for lowers then.not looking forward to that.
Went for regular check up today, having a sensitive tooth lower (B6?) refilled with white rather than the old mercury that's in there. The one behind is too deep to be filled so guess that's a crown in there. Trying to gradually replace all the mercury ones as I go.
Will run Inman aligners by him when I go back for the filling.
told him about my resistance to anaesthetics too.

I've been reading this topic for a while now, it's really nice to read other people's experiences about inman aligners. I have crowded teeth and my orthodontist recommended IA for them - in my case the treatment will take about 10 weeks. I've had braces when I was a child, but I didn't really wear them very often...and now I regret that. But I'm really excited since I found this great and fast treatment, after seeing some photos of the results with IA...I'm impressed and just looking forward to start the treatment! :D I have an appointment with my orthodontist tomorrow and my IA should be there waiting for me - last time I was there was about month ago and my othodontist said that it would take approximately 3 weeks to get them.
I read your experiences about the lisping, and that's basically the only thing that worries me. It will probably feel a bit awkward to speak in the beginning, but I'm sure I'll get used to the lisping. Having straight teeth is totally worth lisping for a while.
Also sorry if I made some mistakes with my english - I'm not a native speaker, though I understand very well.
your English is fine Alice1, good luck with treatment, 10 weeks is great :D

I promise it gets better. I find if you slow down and properly pronounce each word its fine. There are some words that I avoid but in general i'm fine. I lose it a bit when i'm talking to my fiance though as i cant be bothered to speak slowly. As soon as you start to see them moving it will all seem worth it.

Welcome to the forum alice1 and becpz.
Alice - your English is very good. If you hadn't said you're not a native speaker I wouldn't have known.

Just remember, the initial pain does go away, and the time really does go by so quickly! I have had mine 9 weeks today, and I get my bonded wire retainer fitted on Tuesday, then impressions for the clear essix which I will then get the next day. The last bit of filing I had done really has done the trick and I've very pleased with the result. I'll ask the dentist to take some photos and I'll post the before and after photos.

How is everyone else getting on?

Hi everyone,

It's great reading about everyone's experiences, I have been inspired and have my consultaion on the 31st of March! I'm 30 and had braces as a child. My teeth were pretty straight, but in the last 10 years it's all gone a bit wonky!! My upper left lateral incisor and canine have twisted and the front surfaces have started facing each other causing the lateral incisor to overlap the central incisor slightly! My lower left canine had also twisted and the whole bottom arch looks a bit uneven.

I can't really afford Invisalign after a hair raising consultation quoted me £4,500! So Inman looks like a great option! I'm in Herfordshire and wondered if any one is willing to tell me how much they paid and recommend an Ortho?

I've seen people post that Inman can only work on the front 4 teeth-does this mean incisors only? Or is it 4 teeth each side, therefore including canines? Its the top arch that really bothers me, so I guess thats the place to start! Does anyone have the alligner on the top and bottom at the same time?

I have to admit that on some days I would only be able to wear them for 11 hours as I work 12 hour days and honeslty don't think I could wear them at work-but on other days could wear them for up to the 20 hours-hopefully this would even it out? Has anyone had problems wearing them for such varied hours each day?

Thanks for all the great reports! Are there any photo's of results or people with the IA in?
Thanks xx

Hello again :)

Thankyou lordloz and jackdaniels, good that my english is understandable even though I'm not so familiar with orthodontic words :D
anyways, I got my IA on tuesday! My front teeth felt a little sore at first, but I soon got used to IA and now I barely notice it. The lisping wasn't as bad as I thought it would be - I just have little difficulties with s and r letters. And the most amazing thing is that I already notice some progress - today I stared at my teeth and couldn't believe that my other front tooth had actually moved to better position. I took pictures and compared those with the ones that I took before IA and I can easily see that it has moved a bit already. I'm so happy! :) I was just wondering if they are going to shave the teeth a lot - i wish they would, as I'm not completely satisfied with the shape of my teeth. But my orthodontist said that they would and when he showed me the plastercast(? not sure if that's the proper word, but the model made out of my teeth and what they would look like when the treatment would be ready) I was very satisfied :)

Hey everyone,

I've been following this board for a few months and am finally getting the aligners fitted at the end of the month. I'm getting my bottom done first and then top. My ortho mentioned he will use an expander for the top, has anyone had this before? I'm worried that expanding my jaw may change the shape of my face, has anyone had this happen to them or know if it's a valid concern?

Thanks everyone, this board has been great!

Hi!
I've got my Inman Aligner fitted on the 11th march, And i've got an expander built on it, You won't notice it at all! you just need each week to put the key inside the expander and turn, to enlarge your mouth, it will allows your teeth to get more room to fit in!
It does not hurt at all!
If you need it I can take a picture of my Inman, if you want to see how look an expander built on an Inman

Is it normal not to have any pain?

I have had none except for first 2 days I got it.

My dentist tightened mine last week and STILL no pain.

Is this normal?!

:D :D

hi,

yep Iwould say it's normal. I didn't have anywhere near as much pain as I expected and didn't hurt very much to begin with unless I took it out/put it back in.

Went for a check up today, first after being shown it was in wrong/moving things in the wrong way and he seemed encourages withmy progress. It's been 8 weeks now and he recons it will take another 6,they are all pretty much in line now just a roatation to do (whichit trickyapparently) and 'fine tuning' whatever that means - he say he would showme/explain nearer the time which sounds ominous! To be honest I'm not that bothered with however long it takes as am so used to wearing it.I realise a lot of people wear it for less time than I'm goingto be but it's still not that long when youcompare it with train tracks/invisalign!

to Alice1, hey no problem, good luck with it all,

I have been thinking the same since a friend had extensive work I know with jaw broken and reset , full braces etc. her husband said before I saw her he couldn't believe how her face had changed.

Now i think the IA won't have such a drastic effect but as my upper teeth do stick out a little bit then I'm prepared for it to alter the shape of my top lip and therefore my face a bit.
If this isn't the case maybe the others on here who've finished or nearly completed or going through it can let us know if this is the case?
thanks guys :)

I've not really thought about face shape changing I have to say (I don't have an expander on mine) but Looking at the small amount of movement (in terms of the size of a face) I don't imagine it will make much difference. Yes if your teeth stick forward and push your lips out then this may change but I don't see an expander making that much difference, would be interesting to hear from anyone who has been through it with an expander as to their thoughts?
