That doesn't look that bad, too be honest. I think your problem could be possibly fixed with braces and elastics as I've seen someone on this forum with a similar problem.

I had an massive overbite, crowding and also had to undergo some surgically assisted expansion of my upper jaw... and this is my bite for comparison, if you are interested:

[It looks about a thousand times better now, thankfully :D]

You say that you've got a gummy smile, maxillary hypoplasia and vertical excess... have you diagnosed yourself with these terms or has the surgeon actually told you that you have these problems? I don't mean to sound rude; I'm just curious and do want to help you.

The two surgeons must have taken into consideration your general health too. That might explain why they don't want to operate on you. Are you strong enough to go through the pain, the stress, the surgery itself or to cope with results that might not be what you are expecting? They are trained to assess the whole person, not just the condition.

your pic shows a slight open bite which can probably fixed with braces only. which doesn't mean there isn't another issue with your jaws of course, but you can't see it in the pic. where do you get your diagnoses from if your doctors are quacks?

before you do something crazy like fly to the US and pay 100k for a hospital, PM me.
although I can't help with doctors in the UK there are excellent surgeons in europe who do not deny a patient because his main motivation is aesthetics.

but please also consider that the problem might be your perception...especially if you really think your pic shows "horrible and crooked" teeth.

Thanks, I'll PM you.

As for how I know the diagnoses are correct, I can replicate and confirm the measurements made by my ortho.

My profile is far worse than that pic. I'm kinda self-conscious about posting photos, but here's an image showing the relative placement of things on a profile photo. Problems should be obvious: receded chin, retruded upper lip.

Hi, I too am an advocate for the NHS (well at least the principles, standards and Rights of the NHS Constitution). I love the Department of Health, especially the Secretary of State for Health.
I don't understand the complexities of your case as I am not a dental expert, but can assure you that you would not and should not be discriminated against if you have a form of depression or had it years ago which was my case. I suffered a bad bout of depression in my teens; Im now 34 and it had never arisen again ( even had a daughter thirteen years ago with no problems ).

Yeah, they assess the patient from a holistic (whole) perspective and it may have been for other reasons that they did not recommend treatment for you, ask them to write down why they came up with that decision or ask to see your notes from the consultations, you are entitled.
Do pursue another opinion, however, if this is on the NHS they may pass on your details to the next consultant/surgeon in regards to your original consultation with them. This should not allow the next person to judge or condemn you. They "should" start from scratch and give you a consultation with "Fresh eyes".
If you can afford to go private then your options are more widespread.
Best wishes to you; I Hope whatever happens, works out right for you.

From the diagram it doesn't look so bad. And your photo from earlier looks relatively good (compared to mine...) But if your bite is causing issues then you may want to proceed anyway.

If you can/want to get to southern California, I can recommend my surgeon. You will get an honest answer as to what is imperfect, how far it is from perfect, and what procedures could improve it. I believe a consultation wouldn't cost anything.

Good luck!
