Woohooo Last Tray!!

#1 Post by KUMonkeyMomma »

I got my last tray today. In 3 weeks I go back for removing attachments, cleaning and costmetic refining. There are some teeth that are longer than others (my 4 front ones - 2 are shorter due to an incident with monkeybars when I was young hehe) and some that no matter what we tried they just wouldn't move right due to shape/size, etc so he feels that he could get them to look better cosmetically rather than try to do more refinements since we've done 3 course corrections due to those couple stubborn teeth already. I could possibly do traditional braces with an ortho to move those couple teeth, yes, but that is more money and such, whereas my current dentist that is doing my invisalign can do the filing/shaping/bonding right there for not much cost. I also plan to get a gingivectomy done on 2 teeth where the gum line is really lower than the rest and just looks odd (and tends to get puffy at times too).

Have any of you had cosmetic refinements done at the end for things like this that just can't be done with invisalign because it's not necessarily a movement issue but more in how the tooth is shaped or it's size (reshaping teeth/bonding to get them to the right shape/size/look, etc)?

Also I plan to do whitening before the bonding stuff and they said that I could start doing that now even tho I still have 2 attachments left on - one is on a bottom tooth that is further back so even if a spot of it doesn't get as white you'd never notice - but the other is on a front tooth, but one of the ones he'll be doing cosmetic work on so said that since he'll have to do some cosmetic bonding on that tooth after the gingivectomy anyhow that area will likely be covered with new bonding anyways (or he could place a thin layer on to cover it up - or we could whitening on just that one spot/area - I'm not sure how that can be done unless he means putting the gel only in that tooth on the tray or doing it in office with their little zoom whitener system thing). I also worry about a couple of other teeth that I can see there is still some bonding left on from where attachments used to be that just never got completely ground off when the attachments were removed - I'm assuming those won't whiten either, so i'm not sure what to do. I hate to hold off on it and delay all the cosmetic stuff at the end but I hate to do it and end up with all sorts of spots that don't whiten either. I would think that some people with attachments have this issue too - since it seems like it would be near impossible to get every last spec of the bonding stuff from the attachments off when you take them off without risking "sanding" down to far into the enamel - i might be wrong on that though since I'm not a dentist. At least in my case he didn't sand it completely off so I can still tell where a couple were - not that anyone else would ever notice tho LOL
