I am going to go back into him today.

I am 9 weeks in and he totally changed the bottom of the aligner so am not sure if its in correctly.

Hopefully soon I will start to see some movement after all this time.

Well......he put another huge composite on the back of my teeth. Bringing the grand total to 6 so far!

It feels a lot more in place and secure than it was.

I have just under 3 weeks left of my treatment and am nowhere near the finish line.

Just hoping a miracle happens in that time!

Hi Pookie, I've also just got an aligner with an expander in it. Had a lot of trouble at first, but seem to have got the hang of it now. I put the whole aligner into my mouth, just under my top teeth,, then push the expander back behind my front teeth first, and then click each side up. To take it out, I release the pressure on the expander first and then pull down each side. I can nearly manage to do it without a mirror now ..!! By the end of month one, I shall probably be able to do it in my sleep! Speech is still pretty bad and I'm not convinced it will ever improve! Fortunately I'm able to just about cope with this at work and have a couple of hours downtime to fit in telephone calls, etc. I'm only nearing the end of week one ... been told it should take around 10-12 weeks ... seems a long time away ...! It's good to read the success stories on the forum - keeps me focussed on the end result!

I will be 4 weeks tomorrow and I'm finally starting to see movement. It's on my lower teeth and the dentist said they move quicker than the upper. One of the teeth isn't moving as quick as the others but things definitely look straighter so I'm really happy.

I've ordered the upper aligner so I reckon I'll have that in about 4 weeks (allowing for the Easter break). I think I remember the dentist saying something about getting an expander on the top one so that might possibly affect my speech more than the lower one has.

I honestly think the time is flying. In the beginning I was quite upset at the thought of wearing it for so long but it hasn't been as bad as I expected and I know it'll be worth it in the end.

Hi Flooze, I think we must have started treatment around the same time, as I am also nearing the end of week one. Still struggling with it, speech is awful, far worse than I ever thought it would be. And still haven't managed to last a whole night with it in. Am hoping next week will be better….! Thanks for the tips re getting it in, I am finding that a little easier now.

I'm a little bit concerned right now - in my case Inman has been working very well, my left front tooth was overlapping on the right front tooth. The two front teeth - are they called incisors? - straightened almost in a week, and I was very pleased, actually amazed - though I still have one rotated tooth that will take longer time, I couldn't believe the results. Now that I've had IA for 3 weeks and 2 days, it seems that the right front tooth is starting to overlap the left tooth a bit?! Is the IA putting too much pressure on the front teeth so that they are actually starting to go to a wrong direction because of it? I have an appointment with my orthodontist next tuesday, but I'm a bit frustrated and also worried that wearing IA now will just make the teeth more crowded...

don't worry alice, just talk to your dentist next week. when mine didn't look right I queried is and it was changed to stop it happeningand sorted it out prettyquickly. just talk to your dentist about your concerns to eitherput your mind at rest or get it workign how it should

Glad that things are getting easier. How long did they say your treatment will take? The end seems a way off at the moment, but I'm hoping that the weeks will start speeding up. I agree with you about the speech - I just can't see that ever improving. I'm trying to perservere and not be too self conscious about it, but it's a struggle at times. A lot of people on the forum have spoken about a lisp, but this is full blown slurring and slurping..!! I've encountered some funny looks over the past week! Getting a bit fed up of explaining the reason why! Think it must be the extra expander that is making it so difficult. My teeth are really aching today as well - but I'm trying to take that as a good sign that something is happening ....! Fortunately I'm not having any issues about wearing it overnight, which I was worried about. But still a bit of a shock when I wake up in the morning and feel it in my mouth. Treat myself to a couple of hours off as a reward! Hope things improve for you - nothing worse than having a disturbed night's sleep. Good luck!

what do you mean by an expander? I'm startingto wonder whether mine has one and I just thought it was a standard part...
mine is only on the bottom so don't lisp anywhere near as much as on the top butmy speech has improved over time(and I'm sure yours will too!), sometime when I'm tired/talking too quickly I lisp more/slur words but generally mine isn't too bad.
I think length oftimewise it depends on the individual, they say 6-12weekson average. I've had mine for 10 now but think it will be a good few weeks yet.

An expander is an extra spring retainer which fits behind the front teeth. When putting the aligner in you have to push the expander bar back behind the front teeth, which makes it more fiddly to put in. The expander has to be tightened once a week with a special key. Whether you have one or not I think depends on how much your teeth need to move. Because of the extra "workings" it makes it more bulky in the mouth which is why speech is so difficult. My speech has improved since I first got the aligner, but I think that is probably because I'm not quite so self conscious! It's a shame it's so speech unfriendly as I would wear it for longer periods if I thought people could understand what I'm saying!

Jackdaniels, I was wondering how long it took to get you clear retainer after you got the fixed one in place. I have my fixed retainer in place but I am waiting for the clear retainer to be posted to me by my dentist because he is quite far away. Scared my teeth are gonna move even with the bonded retainer. Am I panicking for nothing??????????????????

I started my inman aligner treatment 12 days ago. I was in a lot of pain for first couple days but since day 6 there is very little pain, even when I press against the front tooth that should be moving the most.

Has been the case for other people further on with their treatment?

Hi All,

I'm new here. I had my consultation a couple of weeks ago and just booked for my impressions, unfortunately I have to wait nearly four weeks for them unless they have a cancellation. Fingers crossed.

I have never been happy with my top teeth but as I had a milk tooth until I was 19 I wasn't allowed a brace as a kid. I'm now 28 and have only just found a suitable and affordable solution (and the credit card to do it!)

They said I could have a colour on the back section. Just wondering if anyone has this?
