Is this normal?

#1 Post by wcrasmus »

Hi- New here just entered round #2 in braces. Just had braces put on top only yesterday to close up a gap between my front two teeth. Now things are SO tight when I bite down to try and chew my back teeth don't contact because my lower front teeth are hitting the back of my upper front teeth. Make sense? Is this normal?

Having to develop new chewing habits is very normal for people in braces. Try not to get frustrated but see it as a way to learn new things. Like - how many dishes you can find that you don't have to chew? There are tons out there, realy!

As for teeth not touching - it doesn't have to mean they will stay that way untill you are debraced. The positions change constantly, and you may go through periods when they will touch again, and than they won't...It's all a part of your being-braced journey!

Good luck :D

Thanks for your input! I was starting to get a little nervous that things were moving in the wrong direction.

When I went through my first round of braces, I went through a couple of weird weeks when my bite was changing that my molars were not meeting. It was a pain to eat, but like the previous poster stated, you will adapt.
When it comes to braces in general, we tend to adapt! Realistically, we have no choice. LOL!!!
