Hurry up and brace me ! :-)

#1 Post by fangsbegone »

So my want (and need) for braces became pretty apparent a couple of years into my teens, however after putting off appointments, years past and my overcrowding didn't get any better

Now I've taken the plunge and made the appointments, had impressions and treatment plan consultation, the thing is - the waiting is killing me :P

My ortho after impressions for example books my follow up a month later and spacers and month and a half after that :(

Does anyone else feel that things ( for them) go really slowly ? :D or Is it just my longing to have them put on and see those teeth move ?

UGH! I know exactly what you mean. My ortho is the only one in town, so he is always busy. So each of the consultation appointments were a month apart....even when he'd say "come back in two weeks" the next available would be 4-6 weeks later. And let me tell you, the front office people will not budge on schedules.
Once you get the braces on you'll calm down...of course waiting for that first movement might amp you up again.
The whole month waiting for my banding I was on this site every day...sometimes for hours, just reading everything. That seemed to help. And it kept me from bugging my hubby too much. :D

Anxiety is the WORST part!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I think it took me 6 weeks from my first consult to brace day.

I had finally decided 3 weeks before that I was getting braces, no more thinking for years to fix my teeth again. That was it, the cost was triple what I thought, triple the time, and not invisilign but my mind was made up. I am 4 1/2 months into a 2+ year sentence and soooo glad I did it.....But ready for it to be over lol

Hang in there, remember BREATH!!! lol I have to remind myself that all the time!!

I had my first visit, pictures, impressions, X-rays, exam, consult, and spacers put in all in one day. I told the ortho I couldn't wait another day to get started. You're not alone :)

I completely understand the impatience! I had my initial consultation with the ortho I chose at the beginning of October 2010, was told I needed to see a periodontist about receding gums in a few spots, so that happened at the end of November 2010. My appointment for impressions, X-rays, pictures, etc. with the ortho was the beginning of December, gum surgery the middle of January 2011 then had to wait at least 6 weeks for my gums to heal before braces could go on. I got braced on March 7, so from first consultation to braces I had to wait 5 months!!!! Talk about anxiety lol during this time I also met and started dating my boyfriend, so I had to break the news to him that I would be getting braces in March....holy nerves lol luckily I found a good one and he's fine with it. But heck yes I completely understand about the "hurry up and wait" game that we have to play with busy orthos most of the time. I hope the time between now and brace day goes by quickly for you!

Thanks for all the replies ! :D I'm glad that lots of people here have had similar waits/delays 8) @ashesgap I'm passing the time on here, my family are also sick of my dental ramblings :P

On the positive side of things - im having my first extractions (two upper premolars) next wednesday. I'll look like  :GapToothed: but the interdental pressure will be gone ! Time to stock up on ibuprofen

Then another 5 weeks of waiting  until spacers. Thanks to you guys for the support :D talk soon

Mine went pretty fast. I don't remember how long between the initial consult and the bracketing, but I had the brackets put on on March 15. I had to have a lower front tooth extracted and I stopped at the oral surgeon on the way home to make an appointment and they took me in right away. My next ortho visit was four weeks later, so I went in on March 17th to see about moving it up since they pulled my tooth right away. The ortho also took me in right away and put my wires on. Most of my adjustments were scheduled four weeks apart and my braces came off March 30th. Good luck to you.
