hi smiletime,

I'm in London, and I think my dentist did say something along those lines. It was a long time ago but I'm pretty sure he did mention I wouldn't have to pay if I needed a replacement. But I'm sure you don't have to pay if you are getting a replacement because your present one isn't doing the job. Does anyone else have any knowledge of this?

I'm on holiday now so I'm trying to wear both my top and bottom aligners as often as possible. So much for a holiday but I can't wear them at work so I'm trying to get as much wear time before I have to go back.

Hi everyone
I've basically finished my treatment, have one more appointment to get my retainer and the last composite filling removed from the front of one tooth, maybe get my front two shaved down as well.
Even though I've had it for 5 months, most of the straightening happened in the space of a couple of weeks. It's taken a while because I had the Inman altered as it wasn't putting enough pressure on my teeth to rotate them as well as push them back into place.
On the side of one of those teeth was a silver filling which the dentist replaced with a white one. The silver was much more visible after the tooth was shaved, so I felt I shouldn't have to pay to get it replaced with a white one. But it's made such an improvement to the appearance of my teeth that an extra £120 on top of the £1500 isn't the end of the world.
They're not perfect but it's a massive improvement on before and I'm happy.

If people have had them replaced for free you shouldn't be charged for a spring!

How did the spring fall off? It sounds like the IA was faulty so the dentist shouldn't charge to replace it.

suicidetheory- I can see why you're devastated! I would be too!! See what your contract says, maybe it has a clause in or just says something about straight teeth? I don't see why you should have to pay for it if it broke! they're pretty robust so must have been faulty!! maybe also get intouch with Mr Inman and ask his advice (maybe there is a guarantee or something)- some people on this forum have been in touch with him via the website and seems to respond quickly apparently! good luck!

Hi Guys,

Well, I went to my dentist today and told him how unhappy I was with the way all this was going.

He admitted himself that he seen no movement and does not understand why they aren't shifting.

He said if nothing has moved on my next visit in 3 weeks, he will put me on clear aligners.

Can someone tell me what they are and how they work? Do I have to pay for them? (I live in Ireland)

I am hoping not.

How long does it take after I get moulds taken for the clears till they arrive? He said I may need around 3 of them, how long would it take for 3 to work?

Sorry for all the questions, I am just worried how long this is all going to take now!

Hi smiletime
I don't know specifics but it sounds like he's talking about invislign (or similar) if you want to google it. I hope you won't have to pay for it- I believe that's between you and your dentist buthaving said that you've paid for something he hasn't delivered so I don't think you should have to pay and you should certainly argue your case!
I was quoted for invisalign and it took a lot longer than IA (1 yr to 18months) but your teeth will be different but don'tworry as they are less intrusive so are less obvious and I believe you don'tlisp with them either so pros and cons

sorry I can't be of more help

Hi Smiletime,

It does sound like Invisalign, however I don't think your dentist (same as mine) does that so maybe it's something similar. I hope it works for you and I can't imagine you'll have to pay.
A few years ago I went to a place that does Invisalign but unfortunately my case was too severe so it's great that your dentist thinks this could work for you.

Also, have you looked into 6 month braces? A friend of mine got them and it only took her 4.5 months. Her teeth were quite bad. She got them in a place in Clondalkin I think.

So do you reckon I will have to pay extra?! I am freaking now!

I think I will call them tomorrow and ask! I don't see that I should have to.

I was presuming they were clear retainers provided by Inman, as I am sure they would not want their aligner to be seen to give unfinished results. They would prob get bad reputation otherwise. :o

Hello again everyone
It's been a while since I've been on here, it's really great to see the end result photos people have been putting on - and getting to know what the aftercare bit is like too, thank you :D

I last posted back in October (page 47!) and I honestly thought I was a few weeks away from finishing treatment, was really convinced it'd be done by Christmas (started wearing them mid-August) Unfortunately, my experience has dragged out a bit... I suppose I've been averaging 18hours a day so perhaps why it's taken longer?

However, I can see a huge difference and I really DO believe my dentist this time when they said 'two more weeks' (for the um-teenth time  )

My main concern last time was the almost 2mm gap that had appeared in between my two front teeth - it didn't seem to make sense to have a gap there when it's my two teeth to the side that need to be rotated into place. I know that the rotating teeth are the stubborn ones so perhaps that's why my case has taken longer too...

Anyway, I had another cast taken a couple of months ago - I was hoping this was going to be for the clear plastic retainers to wear at night. But Inman came back to dentist saying that I still needed to wear the brace but with the inside back bit taken out?!! :? So I no longer have anything forcing them outwards if that makes sense?

It seemed bizarre to do this, after so many months of trying to get my front teeth to move forwards, loads of composite blobs to push them outwards, all of a sudden to be without it and allow them to fall back, but it does seem to have had a good effect :) The gap has almost completely closed up! Now the pressure is just on the side teeth that need rotating, which always seemed to me to be what was needed. I think perhaps getting the front two teeth moving was so that they'd budge out of the way for this rotation to take place.

Anyway, I've now got composite blobs on the front two side teeth, hopefully creating enough pressure to turn them. I'll try to post some photos so you can see the journey so far -
I really do hope it's only 2 weeks to go now... I'm trying hard to stay patient after 8 months of treatment because it'll be worth it for years to come hopefully :)

Here are some pics to start off - I can only put 3 on at a time, so these show the beginning stages...

Here are the next stages.. (if you go back to previous post to see the start!) which took me up to Feb... as you can see they are no longer sticking out side views, but this created a gap between front teeth...
(I'll post the next 3 on the next post which shows this now closing up:) thankfully!!!)
