Filmy-slimey feeling? Thoughts?

#1 Post by ithurtstosmile »

Does anyone else have this feeling? Soon after I put them on, maybe less than an hour, I feel like taking my aligners out and rinsing my mouth. It's so annoying and I don't want to become OCD but it's the same kind of feeling I get if I drink Coke (which I hate and never even drink) without a straw...just...gross.
I read in the braces forum, someone said to beware of over-brushing, as not to erode the enamel, which is generally why I just swish out with water, but what do you all suggest? Should I try any particular mouthwashes or toothpastes?
Oh yeah: I find that I poke at my aligners with my tongue a lot, do you think some saliva is getting in between and causing this sensation?
Grazie~

What you can do is soak them in denture cleaner or mouthwash every so often and rinse them really well. Also not rinsing your retainers out after taking them out and letting them sit, then putting them back in without rinsing could probably cause that sensation. I use a foaming hand soap to clean my retainers with every time I take them out and I occasionally soak them in denture cleaner. I don't drink anything but water with them on so I don't really worry about yellowing.
See if that helps the slimey filmy feeling. Get them wet with water before putting them in at the very least!

I really recommend fluoridex toothpaste while doing invisalign.... it helps reduce the chances of getting cavities, since you are more prone to it with invisalign trays:
