Hey All,
I was scheduled to get debanded at my appt. yesterday, and man was I ready. The ortho looks at my teeth and says "They look really good, but I'd like to tweak some things a little...can we hold off another month?" Wha-wha-WHAT???!!! for a minute there I thought you said you wanted to wait a month? "Yes, I'd like to make some refinements." Once I regained consciousness, what could I do but say OK. I ended up getting 3 brackets repositioned, a new wire, and heavy elastics on both sides...yikes are my teeth sore! So it looks like another month or two...!@#%!!
The plan was always to get an implant for a congenitally missing premolar and I had the implant placed about 3 weeks ago. Although the procedure was not pleasant, it was not painful either. The implant site has healed nicely but I'll have to wait another 3 months or so before getting the crown (tooth) attached. If anyone would like additional info, please feel free to ask.

Ah, I feel for you, Jethro. When you're all keyed up and excited to be finally through it all, to be told that must have been devastating. I guess you're also really worried that he will say something similar next month. But hang in there - hopefully he knows exactly what he's doing, and you teeth will look even better than they do now. Best of luck.

Oh I can beat you on that. I was given a de-bracing date in march, I started the countdown - literally on my calendar - and arranged a 'teeth celebration night out', only for my ortho to announce just one week before the big day that he'd like to brace my bottom teeth too to make my bite more stable......meaning....wait for it.....another 6-9 months in braces! top and bottom!!!!
The only upside for me is he isn't charging me any extra so I'll get a better result in the long run.

Jethro, that's a real bummer. Hang in there, it will be here before you know it.

Thanks Sandpiper and loradora, I appreciate the support. As I approach the two-and-a-half year mark, I guess I'm just getting a bit antsy. My ortho's staff seemed as disappointed as I was, but we all had a good laugh! (And after just reading about a very serious incident involving a fellow forum member, it really helps one to keep this kind of thing in perspective).
Poppy123, that must have really been a shocker. Hopefully that bottom arch is shaping up nicely by now. What a great ortho you have to be concerned enough with your final results to provide the additional treatment at no charge.
Here's to a speedy debanding!!

wow, Jethro and poppy123 i feel so bad for you guys. To be excited to end this journey only to find out "not yet"
thanks for sharing your experience, I will be getting braced soon and it's good to keep in mind that whenever my ortho talks about disbanding, to take it with a grain of salt, cuz you never know!

Aw Jethro and Poppy123, I'm so sorry to hear that! But I commend both of y'all for having such positive outlooks as well as patience! Lord knows not all of us would react so well to that kind of news. I know it's hard to hear now, but in the end your teeth will look amazing and a few years down the road, the fact that you waited a few extra months won't matter at all! Here's hoping you won't have to wait that long !
