MrsW2be- welcome to the forum and hope you are getting along well with you IA. It takes some getting used to, I've had mine just over a week and it's no longer sore at all.

Smiletime- hang in there. It's worth the wait and no other option works this fast...remember to tell me this in a few months :D I wish I was almost finished but if I can finish by Aug. I'll be happy.

Tigger- Welcome, looks like we have several of us close to the same start time. Give it a week or so and you won't be the saliva monster anymore.

I had mine one week on Monday and no movement yet. Didn't really expect any. If they moved this fast it'd be weeks and not months for treatment.

Good luck everyone!

Depends on what movement your teeth need. I had one to go forward and that took two weeks. The one that needs to be rotated is what is taking the time. I'm also on month 4.

For those of you with appointments four weeks apart I'd keep an eye on things. I found my teeth moved very quickly after my appointment so I went every two weeks and now down to every week. If they've moved into the gap within a week then you are wearing it for a further three weeks with it not doing anything and just wasting your time.

I dont wear mine 24/7. I've slacked off quite a bit over the last month or so and some days when I've had stuff on I've left it out for an entire day. Hasnt affected my progress at all. Mine has only taken so long because I had quite a severely rotated tooth. Last few weeks for me now anyway.

How did you get on with the last dentist visit? Did you move on to the clear aligners?[/quote]

Nope

He decided to keep going with the aligner. I just can't wait to get it off at this stage! He said hopefully this last adjustment will be the last and he tentatively talked about fitting me for the retainer on the next visit.

This last tooth is so stubborn. Has not moved at all. Though it is hurting today thankfully

Whatever he done yesterday is working :P

Thanks Tennessee :)

Am almost at the finish line

Can't wait until I can finally take this thing out for good!
Good luck with yours. The time goes so quickly :D

Smiletime, has your speech improved as your teeth straightened? I'm week one on upper and still sound stupid but when I just have the lower one in you wouldn't even notice as my speech is perfect.

Hi Hatemyteeth,

Yes your speech improves a little. The more the aligner moves your teeth, the more the grooves at the back part 'fit' better against your teeth - if that makes sense!

I still sound silly with it in my mouth, but nowhere near as bad as I used to! I had a tooth that stuck out, and I sounded awful at that stage!

Thanks, it makes perfect sense. On the bottom, both front and back now touch all my teeth so I think that's why my speech is fine with just that. The top is a lot worse than the bottom ever was and I was wondering if that's why my speech is so awful. I take it out to talk to people because they just don't understand me (and I spit accidentally!).

I used to take mine out a lot, just to talk to people. Now I just wear, it as I can talk a bit better and there is less chance of me spitting on them :D I was shopping today and never bothered taking it out. I think the more I could see they had moved, the more I wanted to wear it to hurry it up! :D

Dentist 'filed' my teeth yesterday, so they are all now one length all the way along. As they moved they were all different sizes and shapes! The levelling really made a difference to how they look. I had developed a fang at the side - god it was so long compared to the others! I was so paranoid about it. It came out of nowhere - just appeared with all the movement that was going on

I just notice that the metal piece that fits on the molars is tight on one side but loose on the other. Like it snaps on the left but easliy slides off when I take it out on the other.

It doesn't fall down when wearing but will this cause the IA to be less effective?

Thanks for the reply's everyone- looks like there's a few of us started at the same time :)

Well had mine fitted yesterday afternoon- teeth have been aching and having problems with speech. Dentist said I had to wear mine pretty much 24 hours only can take it out to eat... I've got an arch expander in my aligner which I have to alter myself every 3/4 days.

Getting married in 15 weeks so im hoping and praying my treatment will be finished by then

The springs at the back of my aligner and poking at the back of my mouth and its feeling quite sore already- anyone else having this problem? Any tips?

Hi Tennessee, mine is the same. It sort of 'clicks' into place on one side but not the other. I had a good look with a mirror and both sides seem to be sitting correctly and feel secure so I'm not too worried about it.

Any movement yet? I've noticed some movement, but only from a tooth further back that isn't one of the teeth that bothers me. It must be to make space for the others to get into the correct position.

Thanks for the reply Earthgirl. I think there has been a little movement. Seems like the space between the two front has closed it a bit though so...PROGRESS. It's kind of like watching grass grow

My first review will be 4 weeks, but I haven't noticed much movement yet (I've had my IA for about 10 days). I think I will need some filing, because my teeth don't look like they've got anywhere to go at the moment. It's good to hear that you're getting good results but not wearing it 24/7. I'm averaging about 16 hrs a day but nothing I can do about it so it will take as long as it takes.

Hi smiletime, did it hurt getting your teeth filed to make them level? I'm going to ask my dentist to do the same because one of my front teeth was chipped slightly as a child and is shorter than the other one. I think it will look more prominent when they're straight. Did your dentist do this as part of your IA treatment or did you have to pay extra?
