I have had two weeks now. Seems to fit closer to the top of my mouth now if that makes sense. I think it has helped my speech a little. I'm trying to decide if I should try to change my appointment to 3 weeks instead of 4. I don't feel much pressure now and would love to keep things moving quickly.

Tennessee, I've had mine 2 weeks too now as well. I've felt more pressure in the last couple of days, so something must be happening, but my teeth don't look any different. My appointment is on 7 June, and I also feel like bringing it forward. Maybe some filing would help things on a bit.

Did anyone else with an upper IA notice any movement in the first 2-3 weeks, or is that time just for 'loosening them up'.

So week one. About 4 hours after I had it in it started to make me retch so I had to get it out asap! It made me gag a little about ten mins after I woke up for a couple of days but that settled down. Drooling stopped and has actually now gone the other way, found it's making my mouth really dry, anyone else had this? Hurt to eat the first day so decided to take painkillers while I was prepping food so they kicked in before it took it out and lasted until I put it back (which was making my eyes water!). I wore it to salsa last night and it was ok, speech hasn't improved but I coped. I can now pop it in and out without a mirror which is quite useful. The only bad thing I've found is that despite brushing and two soaks in Steradent there already seems to be plaque building on it :yuck: Will Retainer Brite get it off?

Hi Tigger. Yes, I've gone slightly the other way too with a dry mouth, but I'm on week 7 so have had a fair time drooling everywhere, so glad things have dried up! Retainer brite seems to do a good job - I give mine a soak every morning as well as a brush withn toothpaste every evening - although the best thing for getting it sparkly clean is a sonic cleaner. I give it a blast once a week and it comes out looking like new!!

Tigger yes my mouth has been a little dry as well.

So the past few nights I have woke up and the front bar had slide up so it was not applying pressure. I slid it back down but I don't want to waste anytime wearing it. would getting it tightened help or will I need composites? Anyone have experience with this?

Hi Tennessee. I've got a composite on my front tooth to stop the bar riding up, so your dentist will probably do that on your next visit. Takes a bit of getting used to. Feels like you've got some food stuck under your lip! But as with most things with the IA, you get used to it!

Tennessee I have a composite on one of my front teeth to stop the front bar moving up too far, it's not too visible because it is just under my top lip when I smile.

Took some photos last night and there is definite progress - I am 2.5 weeks into my treatment. I can really feel the pressure on the teeth that need to move now and some of them feel a little bit loose! But I'm so happy that things are starting to happen :D
Only down side is that I have a really sore tongue :(

Hi earthgirl,

I got an upper IA as my central incisors cross over. I have been wearing mine for 4 days now, and can already see a fair amount of movement. They have definitely begun to straighten out. I am going back to the dentist after 2 weeks, as I want it all sorted asap - I am not especially enjoying having sore teeth! My dentist filed my teeth a fair bit on my first visit, so I guess they had room to move.

I am nervous about them moving too quickly though - and I really don't want to feel that my teeth are wobbly at all. Does this sort itself out quickly?!

Thanks for the responses. Theflooze and Earthgirl.

Glad to hear you are getting movement! I too have seen some movement after 2.5 weeks. The IA is also easier to get in and out.

Earthgirl- My toungue stays sore I think. I get it pinched between the back bar and side acylic a lot.

Snt24-Not sure about everyone but when I see that my teeth have loosened it's because I move with my fingers. Very minor movement but let's me know the IA is working. The teeth will settle once treatment is over and held in one place with the final retainer.

Disaster!!!!!!!!

I took my upper IA out to talk to someone and the bit that goes behind the teeth pinged out and it's gone! I went over to the dentist but he wasn't there. I've to go back in the morning but there's no point wearing it. I'm so annoyed. I was told that he has springs but I'm not sure if he'll have the plastic bit that pushes on the teeth. This never happened with the lower IA. I hope the last 2.5 weeks wearing it wasn't a waste of time. And I hope it doesn't cost me much (or anything!).

Just had my IA fitted, feeling very dribbly and spitty, my speech is poor and have a composite on two back teeth, one composite in the front tooth which is visable when the IA is out and one composite behind my front tooth to hold it in place. Also had some filing already which I didn't expect!

Still, feeling positive...

Let's see what tomorrow brings

Just back from the dentist and my IA has to be sent back to the lab to be fixed :( The last couple of weeks have been a complete waste of time. It might cost but I'm not sure how much.

I am completely finished with treatment so thought I would post my experience of the aligners and hope this is useful for people going through treatment. I know this forum was very useful for me! I was told I had a severe case with protruding and rotated canines on the top and crowding on the bottom therefore I needed both top and bottom aligners. I found it almost impossible to speak clearly wearing both so the most I got to wear the aligers per day was 12-16 hours when not at work. I was given the maximum length of treatment time due to the severity of the case but as I was not wearing the aligners all day, of course this took much longer. I visited my dentist every 3-4 weeks for teeth filing, which is not unpleasant and nothing to be worried about. From the beginning I had composite blobs on top and bottom teeth, this is a bit distracting at first, but it keeps the aligners in place and in a few weeks you don't notice anymore. After a while I was finished with the aligners and the the teeth had all moved into placed, however certain teeth was still rotated so I required 'invisalign trays' to straighten the teeth. These are much easier to wear, with no problems in speech and are barely visible. However, I did need several sets of these to finally finish off everything. I think it is important to tell your dentist if you are not happy as they will happily stop treatment at any stage so let them know if you would like another set of trays. I should also mention that these were included in the price I paid initially for treatment. Once I was happy, I agreed with my dentist I should get a fixed retainer as my case was so severe, however I did need to pay for these separately from the aligner cost. The fixed retainer is a wire that sits behind the teeth holding them in place. After having this for a week, I do not notice wearing it and has no effect on speech. My dentist did mention that I should get more frequent dentist appointments to get this cleaned, which isn't a problem.

I am very happy with my results and I was lucky to have a great dentist who knew what he was doing and I had no problems whatsoever. The only issue was speaking with the aligners in, however I didn't mind that my treatment took longer and I didn't wear them during the day. Hope this is useful! Good luck!

Hi Inman

How long did your treatment take? I'm similar to you in that I can't wear my IA at work, so interested to know how much longer it will take.

Hatemyteeth- sorry to hear about your trouble. Hope this doesn't set you back too much.

Kittenheels- Welcome to the forum. It gets better. I'm not sure if I'm speaking better or care less about it. I only take it out for important phone calls and to eat of course.

Inman- Congrats on completing treatment. Do you have any pics you can posts?
