Hi Smiletime

Congratulations! Your teeth look great, you must be so pleased. How long did your treatment take in total?

Thanks :D

Took over 4 months in the end!

I actually think they are still moving!

Always follow your instinct. I have found my dentist was sometimes wrong and I knew I was right. You know your teeth better than anyone! Even the dentist :D

According to my dentist I am finished. I am not a happy bunny today. I think there were 2 that were still moving and he sized me up for the clear aligner.

Have a look at my pics on Page 77 and see what you think.

I am seeing another dentist for a 2nd opinion.

Smiletime, I think your teeth look really good now. But if you're not happy with the result and you think there is more to be done then don't get the retainer just yet. You've paid for this treatment, you need to make sure you get what you paid for. Get another opinion, just to make sure that this is the best result you will get.

Good luck

Thanks Earthgirl,

I already got the retainer, he would not listen to me. Its really frustrating! I wanted to shake him!

I am going to see their sister dentist in morning to get a 2nd opinion.

I had my free consultation this afternoon. I signed on the dotted line, had my impressions taken and get my IA on 29th June. He reckons 2 months and they'll be straight. I need a couple of fillings and some whitening, but will deal with all of that after they are straightened. It's costing £1495, but they do 0% finance, so 10 months at £149.50. I'm really excited and apprehensive at the same time.

Smiletime - your teeth look amazing!

Thanks TraceT!

Good luck with your treatement!

I went back to a different branch of my dentist today and got a 2nd opinion. I am delighted to say he totally agreed with my concerns and put aligner back in with composites :D

I am so happy that someone finally listened to me. He could see how one of the teeth had moved back and that the clear retainer had been fitted too soon. :D

Am disgusted with my initial dentist. He is one of the partners who owns the firm! His attitude was 'i should be grateful they were better than they used to be'. I paid 1700 euro for that. Shame on him.

Just got back from my checkup. I have had the IA for 4.5 weeks and he said he thinks my teeth will be straight and fitted for the retainer in 4 weeks. I really thought it would take longer. Of course, things might not go as planned so I'm trying not to get to set on the 4 week timeline. He did tighten the IA. It's more difficult to get in and I can feel the pressure so I should see more movement soon.

Smiletime I think your teeth look great but maybe the pics don't show everything. Regardless you are able to continue treatment until YOU are happy. That's what matters anyway.

TraceT- Happy to hear you are getting to use the IA. I would recommend to anyone.

Thanks Tennesse and Smiletime.

Smiletime - I'm so glad that your second opinion agreed with you. I guess too many of us believe what the 'experts' say rather than what our own hearts and minds tell us. Good on you for sticking to your guns.

My dentist mentioned the type of retainer I could choose after my treatment. I said I preferred the removable and he said, "but will you really wear it like you're supposed to?" My reply was, "if I'm paying £1500 to get my teeth straight of course I'm going to wear it!" He then said, "point taken", which made me laugh. Are there really people out there that would part with that amount of money and then let it all go to waste???

My youngest Son, (15), is currently wearing a retainer and all he ever hears from me is, "have you got your retainer in?" He's actually really good and conscientious about wearing it.

Thanks TraceT :D

That is the one piece of advice I would offer to anyone during treatment.

Only you know your mouth, better than your dentist. So speak up!

I truly believe my dentist was not confident using it and it was all trial and error for him. He seemed like a short tempered man and I got the vibe he thought I was a silly woman.

There is no way I was happy that after 1700 euros I was fininshed. 2 teeth were way far back from the others. Even when I look at my clear retainer its wonky!

Makes me so annoyed every time I think of my dentist not listening to me!

I don't expect a Hollywood smile from the aligner, just straight teeth. :D :D :D

God bless my new dentist - he is so lovely. I wish I had of went to him at the start.
And I felt so VINDICATED when he agreed my teeth were out of alignment

Smiletime, your teeth look great and don't look bad in the before photos either :) I was given the option of having my mould made on Wednesday (lower teeth) but I've decided to keep wearing the IA for another week or two because there's one tooth I think could be pushed out a little bit more and I hardly notice it in anyway.

My upper one was meant to be back from the lab this week but it's still not back. I still can't believe it broke on me. I'm over 4 weeks behind where I should be :(

Well 5 weeks have passed and I can't believe how much my teeth have improved in this short time.

So jealous. I should be on week 5 tomorrow but I'm still waiting for the lab to send back my repaired IA. It was due back last Wednesday and it's still not there. I'm so annoyed.

Hatemyteeth-Sorry you are still waiting. I know it's dissappointing but it will all be worth it in the end.
