Hi AG. My scheduled cleaning was actually for the week following brace day. I decided to see if I could get in prior to brace day, and was able to. So I got mine cleaned 3 days before bracing!! I asked the hygienist if the wire has to be removed before cleaning and she said no, but it's obviously more difficult with braces. They know how to do it.

At my regular dentist/hygienist. BTW, my dentist recently had braces from the same ortho I'm using. There are only two damon certified orthos in my immediate area!

Ahk cool!

HAD MY NEW WIRES PUT IN TODAY they hurt! more then the original putting on of the braces in my opinion! i mean putting the wires in didnt hurt (just pressure) but they hurt now, 5 hours later. He said dont use whitening toothpaste and the hygenist at the dentist can do the cleaning. Next appt in 7 weeks (3rd august) and then I get new wires on top, and maybe new wires on the bottom, not sure because they are still a bit crowded.

PHOTO TIME!!!!! (sorry, forgot to take a side on photo of the gap!)
What I will do from now on is post the last photo I took and the current photo :D

Natural smile. (7 weeks ago and now)

I am amazed at how much your story is like mine!! Only you are a couple months ahead of me--I will be at 7 weeks this Friday.

You are very talented as far as getting the pics up so quickly! It's a major struggle for me... Anyway, I cannot believe the amazing progress when I look at your pics--it's wonderful!!

Ok, so just like you, I have Damon Q's and I get my heavier wire on July 26th--the first time I will see the ortho after my bracing on April 29th. I am anxious to hear how the next few days go for you. I have had relatively little pain so far from my braces and archwire. My only problem has been the buccal tubes for the Forsus that rub, and the lingual cleats that rub against my tongue, and several pokey wires that I have had to get clipped. Oh ya, and I have had elastics since day 1 and they are a total pain in the a#s!! And I'm afraid that I may be in the elastics or the Forsus (springs that are like permanent metal elastics to bring in the overjet) the whole time I'm in braces. The Forsus terrifies me, but that won't be until about November....

But the actual real pain thing that everyone talks about--not really...

So, continue with the posting because I think you're journey is going to be soooo much like mine, and you are ahead of me...and congratulations again on your wonderful new look!!!

It's a good feeling when you can relate to someone! Aw, Im sure you will work out the pictures soon! I upload them to tinypic, and then get the picture link/url and put it within the Img code on here.

I love damon q's! I don't want the braces with the ligatures. My ortho said I can get them just for show on the front 4 teeth top and bottom but I think it might look a little silly but I might try it one day when I get my wire changed. I have been in hardly any pain since I got my braces on, but since this damn wire change! My teeth are aching A LOT! It really hurts, but everyone is different with pain. I just "googled" buccal tubes :P they sometimes rub but hardly ever for me. I also had to google lingual cleats... lingual must mean they are on the inner side? Does everyone have them? I have no idea if I do or where they are :P

ELASTICS SINCE DAY ONE?! holy cr@p! that would take its toll! I have an overbite so im guessing i will have elastics eventually.. but the ortho hasnt mentioned that yet.

I will most definetly keep posting :) Thankyou! I can't stop staring at my teeth in the mirror, they look amazing compared to when I first got braced! Mum said she was a bit worried when I first got braced because the arch wire was so zig zagged! I was like thanks mum... thats so nice of you :|

Hey AG--

Not everyone has lingual cleats--the are like an elastics holder, and I'm assuming they are there to attach an elastic to the outside of the very back molar, which also has an elastics hook, to move the very rotated back molar. (Lingual cleats are attached to the inside of a back molar-rubs on my tongue a lot :yuck: ). Probably a ways out. Doesnt seem like a big deal to me.. My mouth is so full of hooks and tubes for future fun stuff....

So, ya, I will be following your story--it really helps to see what other people are experiencing and to be prepared...

preeety sure i dont have these lingual cleats then! i assume thats a good thing!

okay so my wire change was on wednesday and it is now sunday (4 days later) and my teeth still hurt. the bone underneath the teeth (or roots, i dunno) is very sensitive which must mean that they are moving! it doesnt hurt as bad as the day after the wire change, that was painful for me. it also hurts to floss again, like when i first got my braces.

Hi there,

What are your plans for the bottom right? Are you going to do implants, bridge...etc?
I ask this because I had an extraction (tooth before the wisdom) many years ago and there is too much bone loss so my ortho suggested a bridge. I still have my wisdom tooth so that might be why he suggested a bridge, not sure...

Thanks.

The original plan after the extractions was a "partial denture".
I was like HELLL NOOOO! I'm 17, not 70!

But after getting braces and talking to my dentist I think an implant or 2 is the way to go. My ortho said that can be discussed towards the end of my braces.

HOWEVER, I don't have wisdom teeth on the side where those teeth are missing.

Quick update: most of my wire adjustment pain is gone :) just a tiny bit of sensitivity on 2 teeth.

Hi there!
I also developed an anxiety disorder at the age of 13, and the dentist chair was a lovely way to generate panic attacks.
But through having braces, I actually learnt how to be calm and relaxed even while someone is prodding my mouth.
It's awesome you were able to overcome your fears and get braces! It's only uphill from here.

Your teeth look great by the way, that's a lot of progress in a short amount of time.

Hi LeahRuth :) Sorry for the late reply, I have been so busy!
I honestly cant believe how bad my teeth were before braces, and even younger aswell!
Same here, getting braces was a major anxiety thing for me, and i blitzed through it! Even my ortho was so proud of me.
Thanks :) Yeah its crazy looking at those photos! I haven't really noticed much movement since then, but I'm not looking in the mirror at my teeth as often.

Quick update!!
Everything is great with my braces! Only minor minor issue is that a bit on my right hand lower back bracket is poking me, but only when I touch it with my tongue, but it's no biggie. Next appt is august 3rd? That seems so long away!
I feel so guilty, I have eaten so many lollies today! But only because I visited my grandparents. Grandparents + Grandchildren = Being spoilt with lollies :-*

Im really loving life at the moment and emBRACEing it. sorry if im not on for a while, im so busy lately my anxiety has done a vanishing act.
