I have my surgery July 29th!! I just got SO excited to see that there was a "July buddies" topic. This is my first time to this site and am SO SO SO excited that I can have some friends to go through this grueling process with. I'm jealous you are all ahead of me though :(. I had to wait until the end of July because I'm taking a summer class that ends July 21st. As of right now, I am getting just the le fort 1 to fix my class 3 malocclusion (underbite). I asked my ortho a few appts back how large my maxillary deficiency is and he gave me a rough estimate of 7-8mm. This is, apparently, just under the 10mm mark that necessitates bi jaw surgery. I am a little different than most...actually all of the other patients I've been reading about- I have read a LOT. I spend all my free time when I'm at home looking at blogs and such- because I don't have braces. My surgeon agreed to do the surgery with invisalign and TADs (temporary anchorage devices). My orthodontists are also one of the top invisalign providers in my state (MD) so they weren't afraid to do the touch ups post surgery with the invisalign. One of the surgeons I consulted with said I would need to get braces on right before the surgery, so I obviously went with the other one who said invisalign was okay. He said he had done it before (I think he said only once) and that it turned out really well. I believe this surgeon is also more reputable and I trust him more than the other guy, who kind of seemed disorganized.

Good luck to those of you who are getting surgery in the next few days!!! My thoughts are with you and I hope you're not freaking out too much!! :):):)

@ramirezmu8: In Santa Ana.

@Lucia07 & IamSam12345: Thanks!

My surgeon told me I was getting my upper and lower jaw moved about 7mm forward and back respectively. Is that pretty severe? It sounds pretty severe. I just want to be on the road to recovery already. Haha.

Back in November I had both my upper and lower jaws moved 12mm forward and the upper moved another 6mm upwards, so I don't think yours sounds too bad. I guess it all depends on how bad your bite is or how obstructed your airway is in the case of sleep apnea sufferers.

I'm at home now. Had a rough night last night. Not really with pain, but with nausea. I was swallowing a lot of dry blood and ended up throwing up a few times. Wasn't very pleasant, but I'm feeling better now. I have no pain right now, just pressure in my face. My swelling is definitely there, but isn't out of this world bad. Just relaxing now and trying to stay hydrated. It feels so weird, after all these years of having an under bite, to feel my top teeth in front of my lower. Can't wait to see the swelling to go down a bit to see some results.

@danoob

so good to hear from you and that you're doing well!!!! That must be so great to feel a "normal" bite!! Do you have a splint? Are you wired? How's the liquid diet?

I just have the rubber bands and brackets right now, so no wiring. I am just starting to get some food in my stomach. Wasn't feeling it before. I went to my favorite Thai restaurant and picked up a huge bowl of coconut soup, so I'm not minding that.
