Hi Snowglobe32

When new brackets are put on, sometimes the ortho may want to go down to a smaller wire, or delay advancing to the next wire, to make sure they don't pull the brackets off. I also had my little elastic pulling back my canine and he had to hook it on a bit differently for a month or so, so that it wouldn't put too much pressure on the bracket. The delay shouldn't be substantial, but it may be a little.

I have ceramic on top and metal on bottom. When I was younger I had all metal. Having had both types, I like the ceramic on top a lot better. I've found that drinking things like coffee that could stain them through a straw and rinsing my mouth out with water and/or brushing right after I eat really helps the ligatures stay clear. You can definitely still see the ceramic ones but they aren't as in your face as the metal ones and they are so much less noticeable in pictures. I also think they aren't as rough and rub your cheeks less than the metal ones do. If you eventually want to do colors you can get colored ligatures for the ceramics and if you get metal on the bottom you can put colors on those as well.

I have ceramics on top and bottom (although I do have metal on my back molars) I much prefer them to my previous metal ones I had when I was younger!!!

I've never had a problem with staining... My ortho uses White metal ties/ligatures instead of the bands and these don't stain at all, I can eat and drink what I like!!
