I'm home from the hospital too. I had problems with nausea the night of the surgery too, but I didn't throw up or anything. Didn't get any sleep and I don't have much of an appetite.

Wasn't very pleasant, but I'm feeling better now. I have no pain right now, just pressure in my face. My swelling is definitely there, but isn't out of this world bad. Just relaxing now and trying to stay hydrated. It feels so weird, after all these years of having an under bite, to feel my top teeth in front of my lower. Can't wait to see the swelling to go down a bit to see some results.
That's great news danoob glad it all went well!! I bet it feels really good to already feel your jaw in its new natural position. Hope your night wasn't too rough, I'm trying not to think about that part of it yet.

I wish you a speedy recovery, and keep us July people updated,

Don't let my experience trouble you. I'm not going to promise you fun and joy right after the surgery, but just remember that nothing in life worth doing comes easy. We made this decision because we thought it would improve our quality of life. Just remember that when you feel regretful or pain.

danoobsminion and dexter, good to know that you're out of the hospital and on your way to recovery. I hope your days are getting better in regards to swelling and pain/discomfort.

talkalot, how are you doing? how did the surgery go?

annafaith, I pray that everything goes well with your surgery tomorrow.

I've have 4 days left til my surgery. The surgeon said it will last about 4 1/2 hours. I don't know if I want the days to go by fast to get the surgery over with or for the days to go by slowly.

I'm still pretty swollen and have a little discomfort. I wouldn't classify it as pain. Keeping my sinuses clear is the hardest thing, and was the biggest thing keeping me awake last night. I'd say enjoy your last few days of solid food. The liquid diet doesn't particularly bother me, but obviously I miss the ability to eat whatever I want. I am blessed to have my mother (an ex-nurse) taking care of me and making this as painless as possible. Making it through these first days is the hardest part. It's not going too poorly, so I'm looking forward to seeing the swelling go down.

Praying for everyone going into surgery soon.

well, its the day after surgery, am very swollen and in quite a bit of pain. came out of surgery about 12.30 and had nausea and vomiting blood on and off all day yesterday and early this morning which wasnt great. think it was the morphene so have just been on paracetemol. luckily morning nurses are better and have given me a bettermix of pain meds so its now more under control. results look so far from i can see through swelling though, so all worth it :)

good luck in revoverys everyone, and up coming surgerys,

Wishing everyone well with their past/upcoming surgeries.

I am not sure about everyone else, but, it's comforting to hear stories- good and bad! :) Thanks for posting!

I have my final labs tomorrow, already had the final work up. I am having an IVRO done on July 25, completely wired shut for 8 weeks WITH a splint in place. Ugh. I was informed by my surgeon that I will be carrying wire cutters around my neck, on a lanyard, for eight weeks as well. I don't plan on wearing them at work though, ha! I was told that it's not for vomiting or anything, it's for if I happen to be riding in or driving a car that is involved in a serious accident I need to have the wire cutters on me as most EMT/Medics do not have them to access my airway for CPR.

Anxious! :)

Hope everyone is doing well. Day 4 post surgery for me. Swelling is obviously quite apparent, but the pain is getting better by the day. I'm still not minding my liquid diet. I go in for my post op visit on Wednesday. Hoping to see my swelling start going down so I have a better idea what I'm going to look like for the rest of my life :D.

Hey, how did your swelling change over time? My swelling was massive from day 1 (even the nurse commented), don't think I can take it if it gets any more swollen. I've heard days 1-3 are the worst as you continue to swell, and then it subsides. But my nurse told me to go back to the A&E if I get any more swollen over the next few days due to possible breathing problems. Is your swelling starting to reduce yet by day 4?

I would say days 3 and 4 were about the same. I feel like it is starting to go down now though. I'll keep you updated on the swelling status. It probably peaked in when I woke up on day 3. Definitely sucks to feel puffy and not be able to see your results :P.

Yes, the puffiness is definately the worst part. That and not taking enough pain meds to tide you over! Luckily only one side of the bottom lip is numb so I can drink and eat okay, and I don't have to wear elastics yet which i am very please about, so I am counting my blessings as well as feeling a teeny bit sorry for myself! Glad your swelling is subsiding - are you wearing a jaw sling with a cold compress?

Wow that sounds pretty intense, but I'm sure you will be fine. I guess its like getting used a wearing braces - after the first couple of weeks you don't even notice anymore. Wishing you lots of luck for the 25th. Hope i didn't put you off too much with my post! It's been okay really apart from the nausea which is completely gone today :)

Day 4 update:

Swelling is down a small bit, but still very noticeable. I think my upper lip got even more swollen, or at least it's more stiff than it was day 1. It may be because I've been drinking a lot of orange juice and the acidity is messing with it. The pain hasn't gotten any better. I've been getting headaches that I think I'm getting because of the pressure of biting down on my splint.

Encountered my first breathing complications last night. I could only breathe through one nostril and I was too paranoid to fall back asleep for a while. Neighbors partied from 6pm to midnight, so I spent 6 hours trying to nap.
