Glide Threader Floss

#1 Post by NiTirannosaurus »

Hi All,

Does anyone know if Glide Threader floss has been discontinued? I have been a big Glide fan for years, and I've used it for the nearly two years that I've had my braces. I'm having problems finding the 30 packs in my local stores and have been forced to switch to Oral B Superfloss (which takes twice as long!). I see that Dentakit is out of the 30 pack, but has 150 packs in stock, but I'm not sure if I'll need that much (I'm hoping to be debraced in the fall).

If you end up with a bonded retainer, you will still need the threader floss, so buy the 150 pack if you like the Glide. It can be used on debanded teeth too.

No, it has not been discontinued. DentaKit can no longer obtain the boxes of 30, but they are still sold in local stores.
I'm the owner/admin of this site. Had ceramic uppers, metal lowers ~3 years in my early 40's. Now in Hawley retainers at night!

I can buy the Glide threader floss at CVS in the box of 30. I am in the Washington DC area.

I finally found some at CVS too, and I bought 3 boxes. Hoepfully I only have 3 months left:). I don't think I'm going to get a permanent retainer, the last I heard was a combination of hawley and essix.

I had never heard of it til you mentioned it. I am from Australia and use the oral b superfloss... do you think switching would cut down the flossing time?

Perhaps it's just a matter of practice, but using the Superfloss took me about 10 minutes. The Glide takes about 1/3 of the time for me. The leader on the Glide floss is stiffer, so more of it is exposed for threading, and it slides easily because it is made of teflon. I thread the floss between my molars in the back and pick it up on the inside of my arch (rather than threading it under the wire and then between the teeth, which is what I do for the front teeth). I'm so well practiced with the Glide floss that I don't even need a mirror to do it:).

The only thing I don't like about the Glide Threader floss is that the teflon occasionally threads and gets jammed in a bracket, but if I'm careful with how I pull it out between my teeth I can avoid that problem.
