My mouth is on fire. Ouch, it hurts like hell. So today was my third adjustment, wire changes aside, my ortho also repositioned two of my brackets. A sorta preview to what it will feel like when I get my braces off. OK, that was more painful than I expected, I half thought he was going to rip my teeth out. Putting in the wire was just stressful, the stress relieving classical music playing in the background did not reduce my anxiety. I went in there all calm and composed, but after 30 minutes in the dental chair, I became stressed. Telling me to relax didn't do anything and pushing my teeth with extreme pressure did not help but increased my anxiety level.

OK, I have to admit, this was the worst appointment I had up to date. And now, 4 hours after my appointment, my teeth are seriously moaning. It is not a great feeling.

Had Sushi for lunch today, had to take them home and used a knife and fork to cut them up. I would never ever had thought I would do this, but I did.

Despite all the pain and complaints, I have to be grateful to braces. I can see changes. My canines are coming in, the spacing has reduced, the two front teeth have straightened. Bottom teeth, the crowding has reduced, the front bit has spread itself along. My premolar has rotated, creating space for more straightening.

Hey Bip--I am sorry to hear that you had a tough appt today. I hope you are feeling a little better now as I am typing this...

I had my spacers put in....and I'm once again not in pain...well, not yet anyway...and it's been 12 hrs since I had them put in...

I know I am going to have appts like yours was today. I know they are in my future. But I really don't have any idea about that pain yet. So so weird....

Anyway, we are so close together as far as brace day, and our experiences and process has been so entirely different. You have had changes and progress, and I'm just not seeing it for me yet...hmmmm...oh well, just takes time I guess....

Well,I really hope you are feeling fine again soon!!!

Hey klobird! Thanks :) Our differing experiences make this braces journey quite fascinating actually. You must have a very high pain tolerance :) Did you get rubber or metal spacers??

Hey Bip!!--That is one hell of a heavy duty wire you've got going there. Mine is nowhere near that brutal looking!! So, now I know why you have pain!!! OH OH  We'll see after next Tuesday!

I have rubber spacers right now--she said that she almost was going to have to put a metal one in if she couldn't get the 3rd rubber spacer in--took her a while and a lot of broken floss (can't remember if I already posted that here). But hallelujah she finally got the rubber one in. OK, so that was yesterday morning. No pain yet at all...but I am getting really tired of eating food with my front teeth or sucking it down, and I'm still taking 800mg of Ibuprofen every 6-8hrs. I am determined to dodge the pain bullet and I work really hard at it! But, I know my time is coming....and I can be a real b*tch when I'm in pain.... :yikes:

Hey klobird
hahaha 'heavy duty' I'd say, starting wire 025, now I am on 045 or 040 (I forgot) but seriously, it is brutal, but I have to say that these wires work much better than the 'light wires' for the initial two months. Oh Ibuprofen is smart, every time prior to my adjustment, I would remind myself to take some, but end up always forgetting and by the time I do remember, I can never be bothered anymore. Good luck with your adjustment!!! Are you getting molar bands the day you get your wire change???

Congrats! I'll get to do that at 10 am tomorrow morning and I'm actually looking forward to it. Anything to get these pesky spacers out!! I've eaten some of my favorite food past week and I didn't go grocery shopping today since I may have to look at an item twice before tossing it into the cart. Funny as it sounds, I think I'm going to miss bread. I'm told that iced cold drinks and pain killers will be our best friends in the next months ahead. :-+ Woot Advil smoothies!

Have you put your dental kit together yet? :-}

Hi QueenElizabeth, Happy Braces day!! Spacers - ew, I could not stand them. Actually, from what I have learnt so far, don't eat or drink anything too hot or too cold, especially when your teeth begin to loosen. You really don't want to try it, made my teeth hurt for an hour straight. Brush your teeth with lukewarm water, not freezing cold.

My dental kit is pretty basic - floss, toothbrush/paste, mouthwash, interdental brush. That is pretty much it. So long I can keep my teeth clean. I am still considering getting a WaterPik though. hehe Good luck with your braces :) How long is your sentence??? :)

Ooh thankies! Um, they said 24 months. I'm hoping that the braces fairy cuts that time down, but it doesn't seem that bad.
Yeah I learned about my teeth's sensitivity to hot/cold, three days into the spacers. Today was the first day that I woke up by my alarm clock and not throbbing pain. :P Just in time for the braces, eh?

hahaha how fortunate, just in time for the braces pain. Oh yeh, I forgot to mention, keep you Bonjela/Orajel and wax on hand. You might need them A LOT. I went through a container of wax in my first month. oops :P Good luck, and don't fall sleep on the chair! I nearly did.

Hey Bip--Ya they have to put the molar bands in because the new wire needs to attach to them...and I will be getting new pics--so I can post comparison pics finally...

The assistant told me that I would get the Forsus appliance also on Tuesday--what a dope--the ortho said not for about 5 more months. And he is going to ramp up the strength of the elastics this time too. The office mgr. told me to ask about the non-latex rubber bands. Something about the rubber really makes me thirsty. Its really irritating. He has never said anything about a power chain before...so, really, I don't know what else...

I will be glad to get the spacers out. I feel like I have to be so careful when I put anything in my mouth. I am so afraid that I will do something to cause that dreaded pain that everyone talks about...so far, no pain...but I'm still downing the 800mg of Ibuprofen and not biting down when I eat....kind of a pain, but relatively not too bad.

BIP!!! We are almost at 3 months!!! Can you believe it!!!???!!!

Hey klobird!
Yes yes, it is nearly 3 months! That is great!

Have you gotten used to your molar bands yet? Oh by the way, are you getting clear retainers also, I still don't get how they are going to close the gap created by the spacers using retainers?!

When I had spacers, I was scared that the spacers will come out from between the teeth.
The name Forsus just evokes some rather painful images, what exactly is it?
Nearly 3 months! YAY :)
