It's only been two days since my appointment and already my molars are touching again -- my canines are no longer hitting first. That is a big relief!

Adjustment number 2 was this week, and I'm back in elastics. Other than that, not a lot of change. My bite has evened out a bit and feels kind of okay. I don't know what my "normal" bite is anymore though, haha.

By the way, I have enjoyed every second that the expander has been gone. I don't know how I lived with it so long...!

Hmm, I let my story get to the bottom of page 2. My braces are definitely "old news" to me now!

I've had 2 adjustments since my last update, and I go in again next week. My ortho has kept me in elastics this whole time...yuck! I'm actually on vacation this week, and last night I...ran out of elastics! I can't believe I didn't check before I left, but my next appointment is only a few days away, so I think I'll be okay.

Last adjustment he filed down the tops of my molars to make them fit together better. That was pretty gross (to smell/taste) and he seemed to take forever! After that my molars didn't touch at all for a few days, but they soon came together nicely.

My TADs stay connected to my upper archwire with a wire tie that they change out each time. I'm very curious (and nervous) about what my teeth will do with the TADs and elastics are gone. Will my bite open again? Right now it's very closed - and I hope it stays that way.

The bracket door on one of my front teeth broke off and they asked if I wanted the bracket changed, but I didn't really have time that day so they just put a wire tie around it. I personally feel like it is very noticeable, so I hope they will put a new bracket on next time.

Speaking of wire ties...last adjustment they put one around each of my 4 front bottom teeth. Not sure what they're for...but it was quite an ordeal to get the wires tied and cut properly. Those teeth were pretty sore afterwards so I guess the wires had some purpose.

Hi Jade,
I am enjoying reading your braces story. My bite problem is so like yours except that I have Class III malocclusion and no overbite. I love your teeth, they are going to look amazing when your sentence is over :)

Thank you Beauty is Pain!!!

It's been a while since I have updated. I've been super swamped because...my wedding is in 2 WEEKS!

I'll be a brace-face bride.

Anyway, went to the ortho today. When I sat down, the assistant realized that the page in my chart was filled up and she had to start a new page. She said, "I guess that means we're nearing the end, right?" I laughed and said "I hope so!" But I was originally quoted that I would wear them until March 2013...seems like an eternity. Later as she was putting in the wire, she told me that since I'm already in such heavy wires it probably won't be TOO much longer!

Even getting them off 6 months sooner than planned would be amazing!

I'll post new pictures on here eventually. I couldn't be happier with my progress. I looked at my "before" pictures today and my bite has changed SO much!

Congrats on your wedding. I'm new here and have found your story encouraging. I'm 32 and in braces for an open bite. I'm about to get TADs on Monday and am feeling less nervous now thanks. I am unable to view your most recent pics but wish I could I'm so curious to see your progress. It has given me hope that my open bite will be closed one day!

Well, I survived my wedding with braces! The day was wonderful and although there were a few moments when I worried about how I looked while smiling, the braces did not affect my mood at all. And of course no one said a word about them (who would say something like that to the bride, LOL?).

I was so happy to see in my photos that the braces aren't even noticeable! Unless I zoom in on my teeth.

Anyway, I had another adjustment yesterday. I have all sorts of weird stuff going on now that I wasn't expecting. First of all, apparently I'm going to be in elastics my entire treatment. I've been in them from day 1 with the exception of one month. I now have a kind of weird configuration on the right side, and my teeth are very sore on that side today. The left side is just my normal configuration, straight up and down.

Image

I also got MOLAR BUILDUPS. I see so many people on here who have them but I never thought that I would need them! My ortho said that he needs to intrude one of my molars a little more, and the molar buildups along with elastics will do that. Not sure how that works...he said it seems counterproductive but it will work. I don't like them! Now I have an open bite again  (temporarily).

Here are some comparisons I quickly put together. I apologize for the poor quality of the photos!

I had an appointment today and got something new: 4 buttons on the back of my teeth. Now I wear elastics on the back AND the front of my teeth! It never ends

Pretty sure my tongue is going to be very sore because it rubs the buttons whenever I speak or eat.

Also, about a month ago I had one of my TADs taken out. It had gotten loose and we don't use them anymore so my ortho took it out. I was nervous about it but it didn't hurt at all. The other one is still in but not attached to anything.

March will make 1 year in braces for me. I'm ready to hear when they can come off! But I don't really think it will be any time soon.

Hello! Thought I would post a quick update since I haven't in a while. I'm still wearing elastics on the front and back of my teeth. The "inside" elastics (on the backs of my teeth) pop off at the slightest touch so those have been a pain. Otherwise everything has stayed exactly the same...I haven't even had my wires changed in months.

I did get exciting news at my last appointment...I should have my braces off by October of this year!!

:jump:  :biglaf: :jump:

I was previously told Summer 2013, so I'm super excited by this news. I can't wait! There's still a bit of a gap in my closed bite, which these double elastics are closing. Then my ortho said we'll be in the home-stretch.

I will take more pictures soon and post some comparisons.
