Re: July 2011 Buddies?
Glad you're home wonnie!
Day 9 here. Nothing but smooth sailing. No pain, can eat some softer foods like eggs and oatmeal now. Swelling keeps going down day by day, but I assume the less swollen I get the less the swelling will go down each day. I feel comfortable going out in public. The only thing I don't like is my continued lisp with retainers and bands .

@annafaith I'm so sorry to hear your genio didn't take, but I'm sure it's gonna be so much easier and less scary than the original surgery. Good luck with everything and hopefully the hardest part is over!
I'm so glad everything is going well with everyone after 8 days. Such encouraging news!

mmm savory food, that would be nice, im going to try some brothy soup today so im looking forward to that, will be a step up from yogurt and jelly. other foods ive had is ice cream and blended coconut juice so im hoping to step up nutritionally, i was just concerned up to now in being able to clean out my mouth properly after eating so i had kepy to the 'clear' foods.
so this is day 3 post op and the swelling has continued but nothing unexpected, as my swelling is quite uniform i actually look more fat than swollen at the moment. tomorrow is apparently my last day on ice so ill look forward to putting the chilly ice packs away, considering its mid winter here.

Yesterday which was day 3 and today day 4 have been the hardest for me. I hope this recovery makes a turn around. The hardest parts have been eating through a catheter that's in a syringe and getting this new bite settled in with these bands on. I really pray that the next days get better.
So good to hear danoob that you are eating great. i hope to be there in a couple of weeks when this splint gets out.

July 25th here, counting down the days. I'm trying to start putting a list together on what I need to buy before surgery. This next week is my only slow week until all of my appointments start rolling in. My OS office told me I should use a sippy cup instead of a syringe. Anyone else?[/quote]
July 25th is my birthday.
I just gone through a SARPE surgery on July 22nd.

@ leann:Good luck on today's surgery. All will go well. I will pray for you.
@ gettingbraces: happy birthday!
Today is double jaw sx post op day 6 for me. I've been very sedated with the pain med. I think i'm going to cut back and take it every 6 hrs and not every 4 hrs. I'm having problems distinguishing between pain from jaw or discomfort from all the bands and the splint i have in. Did anyone else experience this?

good luck leeann!!! I just said a prayer for you and hope to hear from you in recovery!
Re: July 2011 Buddies?
Lucia - hang in there, it gets drastically better pretty quickly. I havn't had bands or wires, but my jaw still aches, although not badly. From having had elastics before though, they do cause aching in themselves, so it can't be nice having it all at the same time Hope you start to feel better soon.
Day 9 for me here. Good news at last - I will be going back in for surgery this wednesday to fix the genio, and then can finally start 'proper' recovery
Hope everyones recovery is going well, good luck gettingbraces44 for the 25th xx

Re: July 2011 Buddies?
Day 25 post op Lefort I 3 piece and BSSO. Wow the days have really flown by! I have definitely been feeling better than previous days. I am still puffy in my cheek areas and underneath my chin but the swelling is slowly subsiding. I no longer have a cold and phlegms which have made things much easier. My chin area and bottom lip are still completely numb. Feels weird when i shave my chin haha. My next appointment with my oral surgeon is next tuesday where he will be removing the splint. Hopefully i will be able to speak better and eat more foods after the splint is removed. For those of you in the first few days of recovery, keep a positive outlook and have in mind that things will get better real soon. The first days for me were horrible but before you know it, things will start looking up.

@annafaith: thank you for your encouraging words and will be praying that all goes well with your surgery tomorrow.
@ramirez: you had the same surgery i had last week so it makes me feel good to know that 25 days later after your surgery it's all getting better for you. I wonder if i too will have to wear the splint longer than 3 weeks. So far the OS said i would wear the splint only 3 weeks so I guess I just have to wait and see.

Re: July 2011 Buddies?
Day uh... 13 update:
MY TEETH ITCH. I really want to bite something to relieve the tension. The only complication at this point is that my teeth are sore, for whatever reason. The sides of my mouth/my cheeks are still stiff and it feels weird when I smile. I went through a slight withdrawal with the liquid Vicodin a few days back too.
Being able to eat rice porridge makes life slightly more enjoyable!

Re: July 2011 Buddies?
Hi all, posting my recovery experience:
I went in on Monday for an IVRO. The surgery took about three hours and went fairly well.
I returned home from the hospital yesterday and feel ok. The worst part for me, right now (it's Wednesday), is the neck and shoulder aches and this splint they have wired in to my mouth. I'm 100% wired shut and this splint, so I'm told, has to be in for the full eight weeks. I was initially told the splint would be in the front only, but, it goes all the way back and wraps around my molars. So annoying. Good thing I don't gag easily, I have a mouth full of stuff.
I'm only taking ibuprofen (yay me!) I have a high tolerance for pain. I only pushed my pain pump once when I was in the hospital. My swelling is starting to take hold and the bruising is kicking in. My lips are huge, haha! I'm on clear liquid for the first five to seven days and I'm hungry. They want me to be able to handle the clear liquids and adjust to the wires before I add thicker stuff. They say the thicker stuff makes you collect more phlegm and makes it harder to clear your airway.
Ok that's all for now. Hoping this swelling peaks in a few days so I can see my daughter. She's three and doesn't need to see mommy all beat up. My parents have her while my husband takes care of me.
