What should I do with a popped-out wire

#1 Post by christa »

On my lower teeth I have a thick heavy duty wire and a thin wire. The thin wire popped out of my last bracket on my right 2nd molar while I was brushing my teeth. It's not bothering me; it's just sticking out a little. My ortho is only open 2 days a week in the summer at the office I go to...I have an upcoming appointment in 2 weeks so do you think I can wait until then? Or just go in next week?

I've seen this question asked a couple of times and the general consensus is that it's ok for you to try to pop it back in the tube, either with your fingers, tweezers, or someone else's help. And apparently sometimes if you call the office, they'll tell you to go ahead and try to cut it off if you can. But I've seen someone get charged $50 for that, so you'd better call before trying that.

I had a wire that would keep popping out . I called the office the first time and since my next appointment was the following week, they told me it would be okay to wait as long as it wasn't poking. After it happened again, when I called, they scheduled an appointment right away because my next appointment wasn't for another 5 weeks.

I would give the office a call and see what they say. In my case, the wire popping out, wasn't a big deal. It was attached to a wisdom tooth.

My ortho said anything longer than a week before next adjustment to come on in so I'd call them and find out what is best for you.

I'd call your ortho/dentist just to make sure.
