Braces - the journey

#1 Post by Beauty is Pain »

Inspired by HeyBuckey, I have decided to write about my braces journey that I am just about to embark.

Yes, as the first sentence suggests, after getting rubber spacers, then metal spacers, I am finally getting braces in less than 1 hour. Excitement and fear are currently simultaneously existing. I don't know whether to laugh or cry, all I want is to have perfectly straightened teeth in 2 years' time (approx) when it will come off.

Congratulations, the hardest part was the spacers for me!

Hi Dressy1, I love your name! Thanks! Spacers are a PAIN, oh and my actual blog/post/thread is not this one, it is 'Finally On!'

Yes, those were so bad that I wound up switching to another ortho, who was able to reduce spacers time by half. My first ortho wanted me to wear those for 2 weeks and I simply could not do it. Trust me I tried.

Oh wow, 2 weeks, I only had rubber spacers for 3 days (hurt like crap) and then metal spacers after 1 week for 3 days (they were fine-ish)

Yes, two weeks. I came to her after 5 days saying that I could not get it anymore, and she said it have to. She did not even check if the gaps were big enough. So I just lost my money for the records, and went to another ortho. There was a little bit of pain in the beginning from braces but it was nothing compared with spacers. Now I am wearing elastics, which do not bother me at all except that I have to put them on and off every time when I eat or brush and it is a tedious thing to do. and sometimes I forget to take them off.

Hi Dressy1, elastics, I see those in the near future. I know, spacers were the worst part, followed by the ulcers caused by the braces rubbing. How many months in the torture chamber??

Mannn, I had spacers for three weeks because of my ortho's schedule. :( I drank a LOT of ice water that month! Haha. At least the braces went on sort of easily. Hope you're feeling all right after getting the braces on! : )

Hey Bip--

About the ulcers thing--the only problem I have had with those is where my elastics were until I got them moved last week.
The rubbing of the latex elastics on the inside of the corners of my mouth caused some pretty painful sores. But now with the new placement, I hardly notice them--oh ya, and I got latex free this time...much better!!

Other than that, if I have a place that is even slightly irritating, I put wax on it. I just don't want to be distracted by that kind of irritation during work, or when I'm out having fun...

What do you think is causing your mouth ulcers???

Hey Bip--

About the tie wires--how big are yours anyway? I have one under my archwire on the 2 top front teeth. I can hardly see it. I don't think they are the same as the pics I have seen on this site. Mine are so unnoticeable. If they look anything like on this website, then I can see why they might cause ulcers--I mean they look--well, ooowwieee.

Another adjustment?--After my last one (first one)--I'm not looking forward to the next...Mine is not until Sept. 12 and
I won't be getting a new archwire (I don't think) but they are going to take x-rays, pics, and reposition brackets.
Ya, they better because my teeth are not only not straight, but now they seem all over the place!! Ok, so I just have to keep telling myself that my ortho is supposed to be one of the best.....I have to trust him--my teeth are basically in jail so I have no choice but to trust him!!
