Awaiting bracing...

#1 Post by MBriar »

Hello all! I'm scheduled to get my braces put on September 2nd (after having two uppers extracted on August 23rd) but I'm getting concerned. As I'm reading thru posts on the boards I'm seeing people talk about molds being taken of their teeth when they had their x-rays and such taken. My orthodontist has done no molds but I've had all my x-rays....is this normal or no?
I've been told by several people (including my dentist) that my orthodontist is one of the best in my state for adult orthodontics but I'm starting to doubt this if he should have taken molds of my teeth in order to ensure proper treatment. Any insight anyone could provide would be great, thanks!

Don't be worried. The reason why they haven't taken any molds aka Impressions of your teeth yet it's because you still need to get extractions. I went in for a consultation and that was the day I decided to go on with my treatment. But I needed to get one Molar extracted due to a bad root canal and that tooth could no longer be saved. But thank God my orthodontist specializes in TAD's (temporary anchorage deviced) and told me that after my extraction they would be able to pull the last molar and my wisdom tooth to close up the gap from extraction. But anyways, I got my x-rays taken before I left the office and told me to get my extraction ASAP and a week after I got my extraction is the day took my impressions and installed my braces in the same day. So don't be worried. I think you'll be in good hands if he's one of the best in the state. :)

oh and the impressions that are made before the braces go on are for study purposes. I think it would be pointless to get impressions before the extraction because it would be pointless to study an impression with a tooth on it that will no longer be there. I hope that makes sense. But yeah, Good Luck with your braces on COngrats on your decision on getting them. I can say it's probably one of the best investments I've made so far in my life. :)

I hadn't even thought about the extraction needing to be done first..duh! That makes perfect sense. Thanks so much for the response! :D

Hi-

I got my extractions done first and then a week and a half later I'm getting braces- my ortho isn't taking inpressions as he advised that with so many gaps it may be painful- and they are not an essential part of the treatment!

So dont worry! hope your extractions are healing- stick to the soft food-- i made the mistake of eating a carrot today and split open one of my extraction holes- eeeep- luckily not painful, just a bit bloody!

Good luck with your journey to straight teeth lovlienss!
