First time I was about 8 years old. This time was 2 weeks ago at 22. :) #teambraces

Woohoo! Looks Like I fall in the Age Bracket Where most of the ArchWired Members got their braces.

YES, so I am past the half century mark and got my braces on a few months ago. It was a decision influenced by the wonderful periodontist that I have been seeing since my mid-twenties. At a regular cleaning in April 2011 he told me how wonderful my gums were, how healthy my teeth were (I did undergo periodontal surgery and treatment way back when) and he congratulated me for taking such good care of my teeth. When I said to him, "That's great but I still don't like the way they look". He said "...no big deal so you get adult braces!", and I just went for it! I never really considered braces an option for me, but being that my adult kids are financially independent and I have an income that allows me to spend the $4000 on ME, I decided to do it. That being said some folks look at me weird like they think it's a waste of money at "my age". Well let me just say I have a relative who spent more than that on a face lift and she is back right where she started a few short years later! I figure that although I have to wait 18-24 months for the magic to happen on my smile, it will be something I can enjoy and maintain for the rest of my life! So I call these braces my face lift! Thanks for listening!

Hi Rusty's Mom-

I'm glad you went for the braces, it will be a face lift as well as a spirit lift!

I was 59 when my braces went on. 1 year later, they are about to come off, hopefully in Sept. All the pain and the wax are definately worth it!
Bottom braces: 9-1-10
Top Braces: 12-1-10, enamel
Debrace date:Top 12-12-11
Bottom: 1-5-2012

I am 27 and about to embark on my Braces Journey- 4 teeth out tomorrow and Clear ceramc braces on next week- so excited!! Its taken me years to save- and i know its going to be worth it! Its so good to hear everyones stories!
