Gap between my front teeth

#1 Post by 44AndWired »

I have a sizeable gap between my 2 front teeth which is what I am using the braces to close most of all. However, because of this gap, the wire between my 2 front teeth is cutting up the inside of my upper lip which is quite painful. Wax doesn't really work because #1 asthetically it doesn't look good, and #2 it is hard to get the wax to attach just to the wire. Any suggestions on how to deal with this problem???? Help!!!!! :cry:

You can try a product called Benzodent. It is similiar to orajel but the consistency is like a paste so it stays in place. I have used it throughout my time and usually the sore spot or sensitive issue is gone within a day. When you apply it, put it on a q-tip and just spread the stuff out, it sticks like glue. I love it. Good Luck!

I've also used Benzodent, but for some reason, mine didn't stick very well. Maybe im not using it right. What did stick, though, worked great!

Another thing you could try is to apply your wax to the brackets on either side of the wire so that it pushes your lip out of the way of the wire. Yeah, your lip will stick out a bit, but I think it's better than enduring that rubbing. I've had to do that when my elastics rub. Wax doesn't stick well to elastics, either. :(

Good luck!

If that does not work, you could try ComfortBrace Protective Strips: http://www.dentakit.com/comfortbrace.html.

Oh My i so get what you mean, i was left with no choice today but to play ortho,

Just want to make it clear here and i don't reccommend anyone do it

But I had a power chain put on this week and the bottom left side was gouging a hole in my cheek.

I was unable to talk, move my jaw and was in soooooo much pain, I decided that I just couldn't live with it anymore. The wax wouldn't stick and I was going out of my MIND, I had to un-hook the powerchain from the bracket and twist it around and re hook it with the sharp bit facing under the metal hook away from my cheek. I have a HUGE gash in my cheek from 3 days of constant gouging. I am now treating it with antiseptic mouthwash from the chemist. I had instant relief I almost fainted thats how much pain I was in, it seems that where he cut the power chain left a sharp bit of plastic so it wasn't the bracket THANK GOODNESS.

I have heard that those comfort stip things are really good.
Hope u get some relief for your wire.

@Huggypillow

Oh my goodness! I can picture exactly what you're talking about. When the assistant clips off the end of the powerchain, I'm always hoping she doesn't leave any bit of it on the ends. I'm glad you were able to find relief with your homemade remedy. I'd like to know how your ortho reacts when he sees that next time you see him. :D
