Midlines off one-year post-op, still in braces!

#1 Post by redblondefox »

Hello,

I had my bimax jaw surgery with palata expansion last August. I've just had a sliding genioplasty and rhinoplasty and am due for my braces off next Friday! BUT - my midlines seem to have shifted a fair bit in the past couple of months and I do not want to have to wear braces any longer and just wondered if this was normal?

I can't stay in braces forever so surely this is just tough poop right? :-(

I had the same problem. Had Lefort I, BSSO & Genio in November 2010 and just got my braces off last month. My midline was off but my ortho said it would take another 4 months and no gurantee. He said the bite was perfect other than that and no one would even notice the midline. Funny thing though, a day after my braces came off my bit shifted just slightly and now the midline lines up. He then remade the retainer since the bite improved. Maybe you'll have the same luck.
