Got my braces on today

Today I got my braces put on. I have metal top and bottom with red bands to match my red eyeglasses I am 2 months to the day from turning 30, and am happy that my teeth are no longer moving in the wrong direction. I feel like I have been jumping through hoops to get my teeth straightened (cavities filled, 5, yes five wisdom teeth removed, periodontic treatment, cleanings). It took 5 months from deciding I wanted to start getting fixed to the point work could begin. I unfortunately still need 2 extractions to start out with, being an upper right bicuspid, and an unsaveable lower right canine. My teeth got so crooked that they were hurting me both physically and emotionally. I can entirely say that even as they tear at my virgin lips, I an very enthusiastic about the whole thing.

hi rory i have also had my braces put on today ,full metal jacket top and bottoms lol ,at the tender age of 31 my poor old lips are takeing quite a beating as well, iv been given some comfortbrace protective strips by my ortho, thay work realy well for sleeping and sports but i wouldent try eating with one on.they are new on the market so it might be quite hard to get them. im gona start trawling the web for them

I actually just ordered the comfortbrace strips today, and hope to have them by the time I leave for a week long vacation on Tuesday evening or Wednesday morning. I ordered them from the dentalkit website which seems to be owned by the same Lynn who administers this site. I found that baby teething gel works pretty good at easing the pain in my lips without numbing my whole mouth like the much stronger adult toothache gel does.

It's comforting to know that I'm not the only near 30 yr. Old with braces. Mine were just put on Tuesday, and not complete until I have my extractions, but even after almost a week my cheeks are getting used to the brackets. I'm almost out of the wax they gave me, and today is the first day I have gone without it on every tooth. So it will get better!

You share my "brace birthday". I have not used any wax. I figured things would get chewed up no matter what, and the faster I build up scar tissue the better. I seem to have been right Things feel pretty good now, though I just tried eating speghetti for the first time, and was very difficult. I could not bite it to cut it up since because of an open bite, my incisors do not touch. I wish I got used to my contacts as fast as I did braces. Those took 2 or 3 weeks before I could wear them for a full day.

Hi there- also full metal jacket top and bottom. I got mine on Tuesday.
I've lots 3 pounds which is a nice side effect to have but for me the hardest has been to be able to talk properly. My last name has an F and when i spell it out now, it sounds like an "S" LOL.
