Re: Inman aligners
Thanks for the reply style1983. It really helps to know the Inmans limitations without it being glossed over by the dentist! The rotated tooth that concerns me the most does stick out, if this can be made to look better by moving it into alignment with the rest it may just be worth it. I will ask the dentist about the clear aligners and how much extra they may cost (hopefully not too much!) at my next appointment as a back up plan, in case I am not happy with the end result.
Re: Inman aligners
From what I've read on this thread, it seems that the IA is very bulky in the mouth. I do expect it to be uncomfortable and to effect my speech but how thick and obvious is the front bar? Also do most people get used to talking with it in enough to wear to work?

Yes, it is very bulky at first. I remember when I got it, I thought "Oh my God, what have I gotten myself into". And as my dentist were explaining how to clean it (I still don't know what he said to me!), all I could do was to look at myself in the mirror, regretting my decision to willingly put this horrible thing in my mouth.
Mine was placed so close to the bottom of my front teeth, that it wasn't possible to talk with it in without it showing (it pushed my upper lip up, revealing itself). When my mouth was closed it looked like I had a bit botox/restylane in my upper lip, but it did not look unnatural and you get used to "the look" very quickly.
3,5 weeks in, I felt my speech was almost back to normal again (except some words containing S and F) and by the end of the treatment I barely noticed it in my mouth, which I never thought would be possible.

Re: Inman aligners
Dear All,
I'm looking for an orthodontist working with Inman Aligners in London. I know there's a number of people asking about it.
Have you had your fist appointments? How did it go?
Preferably Central London.
Thank you,
Diana

Re: Inman aligners
Hi! I finally had my Inman Aligner fitted today At Dental Elegance in Sidcup. So far so good but think a piece of wire is going to bother me by digging in the side of my cheek. Anybody had a similar experience? Struggling to talk I sound like Donald Duck! Hope it improves!
Re: Inman aligners
I've had mine there too. They have been great so far. I've had mine 5 days and still can't talk properly ubt I keen reminding myself it shouldn't be for too long!
Are the bottom IAs more comfortable and do they have less impact on speech?

Re: Inman aligners
I have just been told I can wear a series of clear retainer type moulds on my bottom teeth instead of another inman. It is cheaper and I am hoping more comfortable. I am having one made to start wearing in about a months time, I think they wanted me to get used to the top first. How long have you been told it will take?

Hi everyone,
I've been reading this message board for the past few weeks and i've found it really really helpful. I always feel the dentist is only giving me the positive side!! I have my inman alligner fitted tomorrow and i'm getting a bit nervous, but also excited! Hope i can speak to some degree, not so worried about the discomfort ...... yet! It's nice to know that there are so many other people out there going through exactly the same thing.
Keep smiling x

Re: Inman aligners
Greetings everyone!!! You are all such an inspiration, source of knowledge and support... looking forward to my journey with you all.
My IA was fitted 2 days ago and so far it's not too bad. A little soreness on a tooth, getting to grips with awful pronunciation of certain letters and the extreme salivating has finally stopped... that was probably the worst!
I have taken pictures and can't wait to see the changes as the weeks go by. I hope I make it there before Xmas!
Good luck to you all :)

This board is so useful, I haven't found any other source of info so far...
How do you keep your IA clean? I brush mine and soak it in retainer bright but it still sometimes tastes and smells and bit of stale water.
Thanks

I brushed mine with a toothbrush and toothpaste twice every day, and used Corega Tabs (Swedish version of Retainer Brite) once a week

It is not that obvious. I was pleasantly surprised when I realized that people don't actually notice it if you don't tell them unless they are staring at you and you're talking to them..
My first day at work I didn't wear it as it was a new job so meeting new colleagues, but after a couple of days I started wearing it and now it's just normal for them as much as for me.. I take it off for calls and meetings, but try to wear it as much as I can.
I'm on my 7th week now. Last appointment I could see some before and after photos and they really encourage you to keep going.. I have to admit though that as much as I'm now "comfortable" with it, I can't wait to finish my upper arch, hopefully by end of november.. Then I'll start with lower one and I hope to be done by spring!
Good luck

Re: Inman aligners
Hi all
Quick Update. I'm on my 2nd clear aligner. Should have had my third fitted on Tuesday, but it wouldn't fit. My dentist has had to take another set of moulds to get another two made up. I'm only supposed to get two free with the IA, so I'm getting a little bit worried about how much extra I'm going to have to pay. My dentist has gone on holiday for two weeks, so my current '1 week' clear aligner needs to last 3 weeks in total. It's already cracked in one place. Eeeek!

Re: Inman aligners
Hello everyone, well after much reading of this board I took the plunge and had the aligner fitted yesterday to the upper arch. Had slight filing between the teeth.. Weird sensation but no pain and have worn the aligner for the past day apart from the odd hour or two.
My teeth are pretty painful and sensitive but I'm taking that as a good sign and the gaps opened from the filing have already all but disappeared!!
Its not too bulky but a nightmare to speak with and the salivating is a bit of a mare but getting better.
I'm not wearing at work as I have alot of meetings but as I work from home too I am able to wear it for roughly 18 hours a day.
My teeth are noticeably on the move already... I can't wait to complete the treatment.

I want to thank everyone on this blog for being such an inspiration to me! I too had my IAs fitted this week (actually yesterday afternoon-October 13). Like most of you, I am having soreness when I take them on/off and around one tooth where the upper IA is attached but I am determined, like you, to get to the end result so I will be wearing them at least 20 hours each day.
I took most of today as a holiday so I could deal with the extra saliva and practice speaking. A couple co-workers said they could understand me, however my speech would be clearer if I would take the marbles out of my mouth. Funny fellow! :o)
As for how I plan to clean my IAs, I read somewhere to soak them in denture cleaner (I.e., Efferdent here in US) so that is what I am currently doing before I put them back in and go off to sleep for my 'second' night.
My dentist said he would provide me, at no extra charge, three sets of retainers after the IAs (I had both Upper and Lowers fitted yesterday) to complete the process since the IAs will not turn my front tooth (it crosses over the other front tooth). He said my teeth would be straight in eight weeks and he does recommend the thin metal wire attachment to the back of my teeth to keep them from going back to their crooked position.
Like everyone here, I am counting the days until the work is complete. For me that should be mid-December. Then I can change the words to the song "All I want to Christmas is my two front teeth" to "I got my front teeth straightened for Christmas!"
Yes, I will post before and after posts FOLLOWING the process.
