Did anyone get veneers after braces?

#1 Post by dezlorelle »

I'm just about at my 20 month point of wearing braces. I have 2 "peg" teeth beside my 2 top front teeth. For all my life when I've smiled, 2 gaps showed in my smile because my peg teeth (size of baby teeth) don't come down as far as the rest of my teeth.

Before I ever got braces, I went to my dentist to see if there was anything I could do for those 2 teeth. Well, since all my other teeth were seriously crooked, he suggested braces, and then a veneer on the 2 little teeth. So 20 months ago I got braces. My ortho has been aware that I'm getting veneers to enlarge the 2 teeth, and was given preferred space by my dentist to put the veneers on.

Well, my teeth have all been straight for ages, and my ortho has been making space on both sides of these teeth.

I'm set to get veneers on after my braces come off. I'm curious if anyone else has already done this? My biggest concern is that it takes a while to get a dental appointment and to get the veneers on, which they can't do until my braces come off. But I can't get fitted for a retainer until my veneers are on. I'm not sure how this is going to go down. Anyone have a similar experience?

getting braces will not change the shape of your face. it will just straighten you teeth.
about the veneers. we do alot of that in the office i work in, and it works great. if done right, and the shade matches your teeth well you would never be able to tell. the only bad thing about it is that insurance does not pay for it, because it is considered a cosmetic procedure, but it would still be less expensive than braces.

Random. And incorrect. It depends on what the individuals issues are. I can show you before and after braces pics where you can see great facial profile changes/improvements.

Back on topic. I would think when you are nearing the end of braces, your ortho will let you know so you can go ahead and schedule the veneer appointment. Then the ortho can remove the braces right before you go through that process so there will only be a matter of days or less without retainers.

Ughbraces- That's what I'm hoping for. I'm just nervous that I'm going to have a serious gap in braces off, veneers, and retainer. Since I had a tooth move that had a broken bracket in just 4 days, I think I have reason to be nervous.

I'm surprised no one else has had any veneers after braces.

There's a chance I have to get two on my front teeth if my gap doesn't close up completely but I haven't even started my braces journey yet, so I can't help. But I hope everything works out for you.

I am almost done with my braces and thinking about getting a veneer on my lateral incisor because it's too short. If you end up getting veneers, can you tell me how it goes?

Here's a photo of my teeth - imgur dot com/uFqoz Let me know if you think I should get a veneer on that one short tooth.

So I think the canine on the right side of the photo is much too high. My ortho disagrees and just made a "step" adjustment today to move the lateral incisor on the right side of the picture higher in order to match the canine on the right. I thought I was crazy so I uploaded this photo and I'm pretty sure that the lateral incisor on the right (next to the middle teeth) is already high enough.

I'm stressed and worried that moving it higher is going to make it look like I have buck teeth. I want to go back and tell her to remove the step and bring down the canine - she said she won't bring down the canine in today's appointment but maybe after I should her this photo she'll change her mind.

Help!!

I am actually planning on getting 6 veneers across the top after braces. I have 2 gaps on each side that wasn't able to be closed. My dentist seems to think the more natural look would require 6 across the top.

Well I'm hoping to get my braces off in the next few months since I'm already a couple months past my original estimate. Once I go through with the whole process I'll post back how it all went down in case anyone else has to get veneers after braces.

A tip for anyone who is planning to get veneers, let your dentist call your orthodontist and give them the space they would like to have on the sides of the teeth getting veneers. My dentist did this and my ortho has been making space for a few months. It actually means I'll have less grinding down of the teeth to be veneered and the veneers will look much more natural. (My 2 teeth being veneered are the size of baby teeth).

I'm going to end up with at least one veneer after the braces are done because they're going to have to disguise my right canine as a right lateral -- there was absolutely no room over there, and the lateral and its root were so far behind the rest of the teeth that they thought it wouldn't come forward properly. So I just had the lateral extracted and the canine is going to come down where it was.

My dentist and my ortho are friends and they often refer to and work with each other, and they've been keeping in touch regularly about me, so I feel very comfortable that they're working it out together.

For anyone who may be in the same situation I am, I am finally coming close to the end of my braces. My dentist and orthodontist have worked very closely together to get the spacing right next to the 2 teeth that will be veneered. The time line works as follows. Braces off. Dentist makes molds for veneers. 2 weeks later veneers are adhered, immediately after fitted for retainer. So I was worried that I would have a substantial gap of time between getting my braces off, having the veneers put on, and getting my retainer. But it turns out it will all happen in a matter of 2 to 3 weeks.

I'm getting veneers on my peg laterals at the end of braces (which are yet to go on, Nov 1st), plus a canine implant. My ortho & dentist are working together too.

Thanks for the applause, lol! Honestly though my funny teeth are a natural talent I was born with so there's no need. I'm seriously hoping my work and financial situation will have improved in 2 years!

Dezlorelle I'm excited for you! You must post pics when it's all done to give me hope!

If anyone is familiar with peg laterals, they understand the need for veneers after braces. It's not as if I just don't like the color of the 2 teeth or it has a chip, but they are about half the width and length of normal teeth. So even if they are straightened with braces, they will look substantially different than the rest of my teeth. I would LOVE not to have to pay for 2 veneers after my ortho treatment, but I just can't see paying so much for braces and still being unhappy with my teeth.

Sallee- I will definitely post final pics. I am probably still a month or two away from the braces removal and the veneers, but I will definitely show them off when i get it all done!

i will get it too for one of my central incisor, but i plan to do it one year after debracing (waiting the teeth in stable position) since i am worry that i need to wait too many days for getting the veneer. i really want the retainer to be put soon after my braces taken out. but actually, i need a little space if i want the veneer has a good shape

Illay- I highly recommend you tell your orthodontist early about your planned veneer. He/She will need to make room for the dentist in order for the new veneer to be proportionate to the surrounding teeth. Your ortho will probably want to talk to the dentist doing the veneer, even if it's 2 years down the road.
