Its two days to Dec 5th surgery and I still have my cold and cough. When I visited the surgeon I mentioned my cold and he said I should be fine unless I have a fever. I spoke to the anesthesiologist and she said they'll assess me the day of surgery to make sure I'm fine. I'm kinda worried that it'll get postponed which I do not want to happen. Everything else is so nicely planned out - time off from work, church retreat 10 days after the surgery, etc. etc. I haven't really had time to think about the surgery. I try to let other things occupy my mind. like, what kind of food should I be eating, lol.

Hope everything goes well as planned. Kinda stressed.

Hi everyone! This is my first visit to this site (referred by a blogger friend who has already had her surgery). I am looking for December jaw surgery buddies as my D day is scheduled for Saturday 12/17 at 7:30 am. I will be having double jaw surgery. My predicted movement is 3 mm maxilla impaction with possible rotation and 10 mm (1 cm!) mandibular jaw advancement. I was recommended to have a genioplasty however, my surgeon thinks I will be happy without it. Due to the increased risks involved (permanent numbness increases with the genio especially with the predicted movement in my case being so severe) and my age (33 yrs), I feel it's not worth it just to have a perfect profile. Yes, I will still have a small chin but I am a small female (5'2") so I don't mind. If I feel I need it later, my surgeon says it takes 45 minutes outpatient under general anesthesia. The cost would be the same, plus sedation. So for now, I'm going to pass on it.

Check out my blog at tara-jaws.blogspot dotcom. If you are having surgery during this holiday season I would love to follow your progress and go through the recovery together!!

Take care!

Hey guys!

I hope you're all excited, I know I am! My surgery is tomorrow morning at 7:30am. I realized my differences in middle school from being made fun of, but didn't think there was anything I could do about it. When I got to college I heard about the surgery, and so I took action.

Two and a half years later, at the age of 20, I am finally getting this surgery. I am doing it all on my own accord. I am profoundly proud of myself.

I will be sure to post follow ups on the 6th about how everything went. God be with me and all of you!

Hi everyone. I'm going to be getting SARPE surgery on the 16th. Feeling SO nervous. The past couple of days have felt like a whirlwind. My ortho put in my expander and top braces on. Had a LOT of pain the day after. Feel better now but can't really chew anything. I think the things that are most concerning to me is the blood clotting properly. I lost the clots when I had my wisdom teeth removed last year and got bad dry socket  and not being able to be around my son as much. My hubby will be home and off work for two weeks and he will be doing everything for our son while I hole up in the bedroom.

I've been a little lax on updating my blog or contributing too much to this thread but I only just found out what my doc's doing on Thursday! He will be doing a 3-4 piece lefort 1 and putting a splint on afterwards.. he'll be bringing my entire jaw up 5mm to get rid of the gummy smile and help the overbite, can't remember how far he said the bottom will be brought forward and up, but moving both jaws to the left 2mm to line up with the rest of my face!! I have only 8 days left but haven't had my pre-op at the hospital nor my post-op discussion to see exactly what he wants me to do. I've read about other peoples' surgeries and he seems to give me a weird look when I ask certain questions... like, I won't be wired shut.... I will only be on a liquids diet for 1-2 weeks then non-chew for about 6 weeks... I had planned for a month off and all the SPAMS I wanted to play but he only submitted my work off request for 2 weeks!! I kinda freaked and joked that I planned for a month of gaming but he said he'd lose his medical license.... boooooooo.....lol

I get to see Thursday exactly what my OS plans to do to my jaw though using the molds he took last week (btw, get molds BEFORE surgical hooks if you can at all wing it!! It took 6 tries and an hour to get 2 good molds of the top jaw alone!!)

Anywho, good luck to those having surgery today!! Hope you guys see this today/tomorrow and that everything went well!! Let us know how you're doing won't you?!

Just got back home after surgery. Doctor ended up doing upper only. Double jaw was the original plan. Not too much swelling, no nausea, no pain, one side of upper lip is numb, great discomfort associated with the splint, which i have to wear for 6 weeks, banded shut for 2 weeks.

I'm so excited to meet all of you on here - so many others who have had or are having surgery in December 2011. My surgery is 12/17 and I will be having double jaw surgery with 3 mm maxilla impaction and 10 mm mandibular advancement. I have opted out of the genioplasty although it was something I could have chosen to give a more perfect profile. I have decided if I want it later, I will get it later. Rather be safe than sorry!

Anyway, I look forward to following this post and all of you!!

All the best!

I am one day before you! I'm having upper and lower jaw surgery (possible genio) on Friday the 16th. Today was my pre-op physical and blood work which is the last thing I needed to do! Last week was my 3D scan of my face. Apparently they use that to make a model of my head that my surgeon will use to practice my surgery on. Crazy!

Good luck to all! I'm SO looking forward to being done with this surgery! My journey started 2 years ago and included SARPE back in April of 2010. I can't wait until it's all done!

Hey everyone. Had surgery done almost 48 hours ago from this very moment.

I know a couple others have posted on here about how they got theirs done on the 5th and pain is low and everything fine. But I'll tell you right now, I had upper and lower jaw surgery as well as a palatal expansion and I am in 100% MISERY!

Believe me when I say, I have a high pain tolerance. I am in the Army, and I have been through a lot of BS in my life, but let me tell you, this tops all of it.

No, I am not trying to scare anyone, I'm just trying to present you with the facts.

When I first woke up at the hospital, I almost had a panic attack. That is because I simply could not open my mouth...Period! My lips are enormous and when I had first woken up I couldn't even pull them off each other. My face is as big as an overgrown balloon. The splint I have in gives me the feeling that I am forcing my jaw to stay only slightly open 24/7. Just try keeping your mouth open 1/4 of an inch for 48 hours straight. That's how I feel. I am drooling all over the place, constant pain on the inside of my mouth towards the back. Swallowing is just dreadful.

On the plus side:

Things have only gotten better since the surgery started.
Breathing is not nearly as bad as I thought it would be.
I probably had one of, if not the most severe underbite case on this forum, which would only naturally result in the most severe post surgery conditions.

Keep me in your prayers and hopes, you'll all be in mine.

Am I the last of the December buddies to go? I'm scheduled for the 19th and had my final pre-op appointment today.

Hey Boatsink! I remember reading your blog, any updated posts and pictures coming?
