Had my first post-op visit today. They rinsed me out, took pan and ceph x-rays and changed my elastics. I can now eat soft foods as my OS wants me to attempt to put back on the weight I've lost. I'm down 11.5 lbs in 8 days  . I think it will be hard to gain weight, as I was a pretty active runner up until 2 days before surgery. But I'm going to attempt to stabilize for now. Hope everyone is doing better.

You are lucky! I had a post-op visit today and he took a look around and said at least two more weeks of being banded shut tightly. Gah! I was really hoping I'd get to throw out the syringes today. No such luck!

I'm down 10 pounds in 11 days, so about a pound a day. I'm just hoping the next two weeks go by quickly. Time seems to be going by SO slowly. Probably because I don't have a lot of energy to do much, and it's chilly here in Chicago so I can't really get outside, so I've been lounging on the couch watching TV all day which I'm definitely not used to doing.

This is definitely teaching me patience!
L4-Are you banded shut? I ask because I see you had a le fort done. I had that done and have been drinking from a cup for about 5ish days now. I just try to make sure it's plastic, as I can't feel my upper teeth and am scared to use glass.
yeah, im banded shut. glad to hear i can try the cup. I guess all the other restrictions and rules made me think i heard them say dont drink from a cup.

How's everybody doing? It's hard for me to believe that it's already been two weeks, yet at the same time, I wish I were at the two month mark. Still don't have a whole lot of energy, and I still wouldn't be sleeping well if it weren't for the two Advil PM's I take each night before bed. But, I've started to use a cup to drink and that's been nice (although it does require me to hold a cloth under my mouth to catch all of the dribbles). Diet wise, I am getting SO bored with soups and smoothies. Even the thinned out mashed potatoes are starting to sound gross. But, I've got a long ways to go as far as that goes. My mouth is still banded shut (although there were only two bands in the front holding it closed, and one broke) so I'm still using syringes to eat. I can't wait for the day I can throw those things in the garbage!

My surgeon goes in for back surgery on Tuesday, so I'll be seeing his partner. Getting a little nervous about that because I really liked him. But there's not much choice in this matter! Just hoping his partner is as nice and caring as my OS has been.

Hope everyone is well! :)

Today marks 2 weeks post-op for me. I wish I could say time is flying, but it's not :? . This has been the slowest 2 weeks of my life. The diet change has helped me get more energy, but I'm still not normal. I've been going out more trying to get back into a normal routine.

I still have a lot of swelling mid-face and I think I look bloated. I'm growing concerned over my sinuses though as they have not improved. If I look up my nostrils, one is completely sealed off. I'm not sure if that's because my sinuses are still swollen or because of some type of infection. My 2nd post-op appointment is tomorrow so hopefully I'll get some answers.

My sleeping is still off. I go to bed so early and wake up early. On a small positive note, I'm able to get an adult toothbrush in my mouth and my teeth feel much cleaner.

It has been almost 3 weeks since I had my Le Fort 1 and everything was going okay until Monday. My husband got sick and so then of course I did too :( The worst part is I'm still swollen in my sinus cavities from the surgery and now with this they feel like they are going to explode from the pressure. Even though they say not to blow your nose, I HAVE to. I emailed my surgeon to let him know all of this and he is calling my in another dose of antibiotics. I also started back on the Mucinex D, which has been a savior, because one dose in and the pressure has gone done drastically. Hope you all are having an easier time!

Yesterday , I had my 2nd post-op appointment. I complained to my surgeon about my congestion and inability to breathe out of one nostril since the surgery. I also told him how that one nostril was closed off when you shine a light into it, while the other one appeared perfectly normal.

As it turns out, my septum deviated courtesy of my le fort and today I had a septoplasty done. I am back in pain a d misery with this packing in my nose. Also back on the liquid painkillers. Hopefully you all are having a better week than I am.

Swelling is all but gone other than my upper cheeks. Pain is manageable. Tomorrow is my 3rd week anniversary.

SPShelley - Hope you're feeling better soon! Getting sick is all ya need after surgery. :(

SLiM- Oh no! A deviated septum? That's terrible. And the liquid painkillers are awful. I don't know what you have but the liquid vicodin they gave me (greenish/yellowish in color) tastes TERRIBLE! I quit taking it, probably before I should've, so that I could avoid gagging it down through the syringe.

Bingebag - Looking good! Tomorrow is three weeks for me and I don't think I look quite as good as you.

So my OS had back surgery on Tuesday and decided he wanted to see me before then, so he went into the office on Monday (they were closed for the holiday), just to see me. Talk about dedicated. He had no office staff, just him wearing sweatpants and a t-shirt. He deemed me fit to be unbanded (halllelujah!) and promptly took those suckers off. Now I have just two rubberbands on each side. Have I mentioned I don't have a splint? He used one during surgery but it was removed before I woke up. So just two rubberbands in there, but I still have extreme difficulty talking. Especially "b" "p" and "v" sounds.

After he took the bands off, I went home and cleaned my mouth. My WHOLE mouth. Ahhh... it felt soooo good to get my tongue clean. My food options have opened up now too.... I can have whatever I don't have to chew. So far I've had a couple baked potatoes, pudding, and today I even cut up a chicken patty into teeeeeeny tiny pieces and dipped it in ketchup. It takes me forever to eat and I am a mess by the time I'm done, but it's better than thinned out soups and ensure.

Oh, the other thing I never mentioned. My ortho was supposed to have placed surgical hooks all around. Instead he only placed them on my back teeth. My OS had to improvise during surgery to place the bands in front, so he drilled a screw right above my top teeth. Yup... I have a screw sticking out which he put the band on, and then below my bottom front teeth is this funky hook that is in my gums. This hook is driving me CRAAAAZY. Even though he doesn't need the screw or the funky hook anymore, he didn't take them out because he wants everything to soften up a bit. I think about how annoying the hook is CONSTANTLY and can't wait for it to come out.

Anyhow...Hope everyone is well!

I'm glad to hear most everyone's doing ok!!

SPShelley I hope you get better soon!! I threw up the other day after I'd eaten some egg drop soup the night before, twice! and I can't imagine actually being sick for any extended period of time during recovery!!

Slim - I had a deviated septum before surgery that my doc fixed while he was doing my lefort 1 and saggital split!! It sucks while those tubes are in there, but you will feel much better once they're out and you can breathe again!!!

I'm 3.5 weeks since surgery, had my tubes taken out of my nose 10 days in and it's such an amazing feeling being able to breathe fully for the first time in my life!! (born with a really bad deviation that can't be explained) and being able to smell things and waking up realizing I'm breathing through my nose instead of my mouth when before I couldn't get but a few breaths before I HAD to open my mouth to breathe through it is just..... so amazing a feeling it's hard to describe!!

Peak swelling was actually at around the 2-3 day mark and it seems as though I'm almost done even though I'll stay at this minimal for a while longer but I'm almost to the point I think that I'm seeing what my new self will look like from now on!! Still on non-chew but manage mac-n-cheese, mashed potatoes, chili, pasta, etc on a daily basis as long as I can swallow it whole lol!!

SM-Your profile looks AMAZING! Glad to hear your recovery is going well, minus a few hiccups.

I'm doing MUCH better after being on more antibiotics and Mucinex D, I can breathe out of my nose again and not feel like the cavities are going to explode from the sinus pressure. :jump:

I AM a little nervous though, there is talks of doing a lower jaw surgery to extend my jaw out to close my open bite. My ortho said he is going to try everything before we get to that point.
I don't know if I can mentally go through another surgery. I was lucky this time because my husband got two weeks off, so he could be here the whole time to watch our 2 year old son. I don't feel right about asking him to use more of his vacation time to sit around the house and take care of me.
Does anyone know which recovery is worse? a 3 piece Le Fort 1 or a lower jaw surgery?

I would think the top is more severe since you have to have the splint on for weeks (me about 6 weeks) but the bottom jaw is nothing.... I mean, my doc hasn't told me to be especially careful of my bottom jaw at all, just to not put too much pressure on the top jaw (since it literally was separated out into the 3 pieces) now that I'm sleeping horizontal in bed again.... He also wants me trying to get my Range of Motion back in my joints, so nothing too spectacular on the bottom jaw at all!! :) I wouldn't worry too much about needing anything but maybe a few days off, if that much, as this is also an out-patient surgery I do believe as opposed to the overnight that both jaw surgeries was for me.

Im 4 weeks post op from a le fort 3 peice. Even though my os said my healing is ahead of schedule, i am still banded shut for 2 more weeks. My question is, does anyone else open their mouth to talk with the bands/splint in? It makes it much better to talk and everything feels fine, i only open it a little bit. Im back at work and sometimes i have no choice but to talk clearly so i cheat and open my mouth a little.

It was officially one month post-op yesterday! I went to the OS today and he cleared me for soft chew but told me I need to see a physical therapist. I didn't realize they did such therapy for a mouth, but they do!

How is everybody doing?
