Two top retainers?

#1 Post by OmgDom. »

Hey guys so Im getting my braces off in May (fingers crossed). My ortho
told me I won't need bottom retainers which is awesome news BUT my
question is do you think they'll let me get two top retainers? Would that be asking
for too much? I really want a back up retainer. Plus didn't I already pay for a full set?
If you think I'll embarrass myself by asking please say so haha. If this matters I DID NOT use insurance.

THANKS!

I would ask why not. I don't know from experience but I paid $7000 out of pocket I will be asking for 2 retainers LOL, might not get it but it doesn't hurt to ask.

I am assuming you have braces on the bottom, why no retainer that seems REALLY REALLY odd, are you getting a fixed retainer?? I think I am getting a fixed but will be asking for a retainer for night time use, I have had braces 2x no way I want to risk my teeth moving again.

Because my bottom teeth were pretty much perfect. In fact I had my top teeth braced like 8 months before my bottom. Basically there's not much to "retain" because thats all the braces have been doing for the past year and a half.

Hey Dom! (Same name :D)

That's interesting! So your bottom teeth have been perfect for a year and a half, but with braces kept on? I guess that's some serious retaining, haha!

So your ortho doesn't believe they'll move once the braces come off? At all? I thought you'd still need to use a retainer on occasion. That's awesome if not though! I know my ortho has mentioned that retainers don't necessarily need to be forever, just for as long as the teeth need to maintain their position permanently.

Hahaha nice name!!! Hahahah

Yeah maybe he'll change his mind though. Yes I think he put them on because I needed hooks to wear elastics. Yeah when my friend got hers removed they told her 6 months, she said after the sixth month or so she could feel her teeth setting in and she never wears it anymore.

Hehe, thanks! Yours is awesome too ;)

Ah, interesting! Were your bottom teeth already perfect and you just had the braces on purely as hooks?

6 months sounds good for retainers, hehe. I'll be very happy at that point if I feel my teeth setting in :D
