Gaps between top teeth-Help!

#1 Post by Marie45 »

I have had my braces for 8 weeks and although top teeth only need a slight adjustment (front tooth pushed back), I now am starting to have gaps between my side teeth and I'm afraid I will have a gap between the two middle teeth as well. I don't have an adjustment until end of Feb. and I am getting obsessed with these gaps. I'm thinking -either everything will look worse before it gets better or else I will have these gaps forever.

Help!! Can someone reassure me - Thanks

I started having gaps between my top teeth, specifically between the lateral incisors and the canines and canines and 1st premolars. I wasen't too concerned about it though, but my ortho inserted the powerchains and they closed the gaps literally in 3 days. At the same time, he also tied the top front teeth together with the wire so that the gap does not open between them.
If I were you, I would not have been too worried unless the gaps are getting bigger than 2-3mm. I think it can wait till february, but if it bugs you too much, perhaps give them a call.
Had full mouth metal braces for 21 months. Debonded April 2013. Now wearing clear plastic retainers every other night.

I have no formal dental or orthodontic education. Hence, all opinions expressed by me on this forum are those of an "informed consumer" and by no means intended as an expert advice.

Throughout your treatment time, you will have gaps, no gaps, then even bigger gaps...you are still early on. I wouldn't worry about it at all.

Everything will get worse before it gets better. At times, I think, "My teeth look great!" then I may think,"My gosh, what the heck happened?"

Once you get towards the end, things usually settle down and you can see the beginning of the possible final product.

I would suggest taking a lot of photos and starting a blog or journal because the time goes really fast and it is really neat to see the changes.

I never had a space between my two front teeth until I got braces but on. BUT! The space closed after about 3 months (just when I was getting angry with it. haha).

Thanks everyone. I am going to wait til Feb appointment unless gaps start getting really wide, and in the meantime I think I will start taking photos to watch my progress. I'm looking at my teeth so much anyway these days I might as well have a photo of them!
