I'm 28 and getting Braces put on in 5 days Contest Winner!!

#1 Post by lrlvdy »

I'm finally getting braces put on after 20 years of desperately waiting for this day to come! Guess I'll start at the beginning :).. When I was 8 I was blessed with a straight, white, perfect smile. Not that I noticed or even cared. But I didn't have that beautiful smile long. Such a short time in fact there isn't one pic with my adult teeth before the "accident". Yes my beautiful smile will soon be forever transformed! One beautiful summer day me and my friend went to a neighbors house to jump on their trampoline. In the middle of my most awesome back flip a couple of teenagers jumped on the tramp causing my feet to slip from under me and my mouth crashing on to the metal ring (OUCH!) instantly jamming my 2 front teeth back up into my gum. My teeth, eventually, came back down but this time I had a crooked smile and a huge overbite! Causing me much pain and distress.. When I was 12 an ortho told my mother he would have to break my jaw to fix my teeth.. I was all for it.. I really didn't care what he had to do. My mother was a different story lol. Turns out she should have gotten a second opinion. When I asked my ortho about the jaw breaking he looked at me like I had lost my mind. As of now all that's needed to fix that is 4 molars pulled, spacers, braces, and rubberbands.. so far.... And now I got a little ahead of myself..

Last year I was taking my daughter to school and the radio was on. Usually it's not but my husband had left it on the night before.. So anyways the station was advertising a Extreme Smile Makeover contest. I thought I would love that lol... When I got home I had completely forgotten about it. (it was 7 Oclock in the morning) about 2 hours later I remembered which is just amazing in itself (worst memory ever) I hopped online and seen you had to submit a picture. I almost didn't do it just because they wanted a pic. It took me hours to find a pic that showed my teeth. Plus it was super blurry. By some miracle I was picked as one of the 10 finalists. They gave me a link and said to get as many votes as you can in a week and that's how they would pick the winner.. Right then I knew I had a chance! I was once an Internet Marketer and getting a link out there for ppl to click was something I could do! So I told my story in great detail( yes greater than this lol) took better pics of my mouth and with a whole lot of praying I won that awesome contest!!! So here I am with 7 fillings, 4 molars pulled and 8 spacers later. Hurting like hell and loving every minute of it.. I do miss eating though! I'm crossing my fingers that the braces will be on, on Thursday. They set me up with an appt. to have them on last thursday but I got these lovely spacers instead!

I have to say I was very much concerned with my age being a whopping 28 years old but after reading this forum and seeing ppl as young as 65 getting the metal mouth look, I feel much better.. Still very hungry though! Thanks for reading :)

AWESOME!!!!!!!!! My orthodontist was actually the one thinking about breaking my jaws nad I looked at her like she was nutz LOL but in all honesty I went for consults and those surgeons are carazay butchers!!!!!!!!!! haha no thanks on that. So I told her I wasn't cool with it and she said that was perfectly fine. Now I am 5 months later, fully braced with rubber bands.

Bracedsurgerystudent, I nearly choked on my dinner laughing when reading that  Not the nature of the post, but the comment about surgeons. That "carazay butchers" combined with you being an aspiring surgeon just seemed very funny to me for some reason.

lrlvdy, That is so awesome about winning your braces in a contest. You are going to be so happy with the results  Like Tom Petty said, the waiting is the hardest part. Good luck :D

I know it's been a lil while since I posted.. I must start where I left off ;) Before I went in for my appt I spent all of $20 on cold remedies trying to unclog my nose so I could breathe while the braces where being put on... Didn't work well lol... But luckily I didn't start sneezing until after the appt! I did warn the dentist and assistant that I had just come down with a cold that morning and if they wanted to reschedule that was ok with me.. They assured me it wasn't a problem etc.

The appt altogether took 2 hours but I don't think that's the norm.. The assistant even commented on how long he was taking to place a bracket.. He wanted to get it just right which I greatly appreciated! I felt no pain while the braces where being put on... just some pressure when the wire was put in but it was nothing :)

I did voice my concern about having a gummy smile and how small my upper laterals where and how I believed that even after my teeth were straight that I would still have a goofy-looking-gummy-smile.. The assistant told me that I have nothing to worry about that my laterals will come down even with my central incisors and I will magically have a less gummy smile. Ok she didn't say "magically" but I just don't see how it's possible myself. Does anyone have any insight on that? Would be greatly appreciated :)

On another note I can finally eat food! Took about 2 weeks for that accomplishment! I still have a little pain and I can't eat everything, but I must say I never realized how much pressure we put on our teeth when we chew until I started this process!
