Hey, kellyb. Sorry I haven't updated since! Not much new to report regarding my teeth, really. Haven't noticed any movement yet, though I'll put up my 1 week photos on Friday to see for sure.

I went to the dentist today for an appointment with one of the dental nurses (she's lovely) for a sort of oral hygiene session now that I have braces. She explained in great detail everything I need to know about keeping my teeth clean. It was really informative! I learned a lot about various things, like exactly how to floss (and different types of floss/tape), when best to use mouthwash (not just after brushing as the teeth won't absorb the fluoride if you've already just brushed with fluoride toothpaste), safe drinks to have (tap water, cow's milk, tea and coffee without sugar, etc.), to wait 45-60 mins before brushing after drinking acidic drinks, to avoid eating sugary/acidic snacks within 3 hours of each other, etc. Lots and lots! She also did a quick disclosure test to see how well I've been brushing, and it looked good. There were only a few little spots in a couple of hard to read areas that I missed, and my gums look nice and pink :) And she also gave me a few free goodies, hehe. Some Oral-B Pro Expert toothpaste, some Colgate Total Advanced (both of my favourite toothpastes!), and a Colgate Sensitive Pro-Relief to take the edge off my sensitivity, and a little bottle of Colgate Fluoride mouthwash! :D

I also mentioned the sore near my left tonsil, as it has still been really hurting, and she caught my hygienist quickly between appointments and I had a quick check-up with her. She says it's an ulcer, although a really nasty one as it's quite big and in an awkward spot. I'm glad it's just an ulcer and nothing serious. She said to leave it another week and if it hasn't gone by then then I should see her again.

As for my teeth, they're still quite sensitive. I tried eating pizza and fries today and it was probably a bad idea. The crust especially was too tough to bite and it hurt, but I managed it eventually. My left cheek is really sore from being cut up by the bracket on my back molar, and I hope it'll heal up properly soon and toughen up and not hurt anymore.

Oh! And I had a bit of a shock today. All of a sudden I was tasting that clove taste again, and went and looked in the mirror and to my surprise all the brown stuff that my dentist had put in my dry socket weeks ago had been pushed out! I asked about it today at the dentist and apparently it's normal, as it takes much longer to dissolve than this, so it'll eject itself if it doesn't need it anymore. Hopefully my hole will heal up quickly now as it's been looking a bit big and angry :D

Thanks for the interest, all! I'll try and update on Friday and hopefully there might be a little bit of visible difference in my teeth!

Dom, glad to know you are coping ok :D
You are one brave man for taking on pizza so soon after having your braces fitted. it took me 6 weeks after having my braces fitted before i took on a few slices or pizza. as it was a thin crust one it wasn't too bad, just had to eat it abit slower and with knife and fork.

looking forward to your one week progress pics

Hey kellyb. I'm doing good, thanks! Yeah, I was going to post them but I realised there's absolutely no discernible difference after 1 week, though looking in the mirror the past couple of days I think I can see a bit of movement! (My bottom teeth especially; they're the ones that are feeling the wobbly, sensitive, pressure sort of feeling.) Also, I left it too long to check the photos and realised the angles were pretty rubbish and aren't worth uploading regardless. Sorry! I would have liked to upload for completeness and to show there is no change, but it was my fault for not checking them sooner.

I'll definitely get my week 2 photos up, though! I bet there should be some noticeable difference then, and I'll make sure to get the angles good :) I'll photograph them on Friday and aim to have them up the same day or maybe Saturday.

Oh, and a quick report... I had a Pot Noodle the other day and later on looked in the mirror and, to my horror, found my clear ligatures are now yellow :( I was so annoyed! I checked the Pot Noodle's ingredients (Chicken and Mushroom flavour) and was annoyed to see it has turmeric in it. I had no idea and did not expect for one moment that it would have turmeric; I only thought curries and spicy food had that! So now I have yellow ligatures :( It'll likely be visible on my next photos, which won't be much fun. Oh wells... I have my first adjustment on 10 April so I only have to wait till then to get them replaced. I was being so careful, too :( I know I'll be eating loads of curry and turmeric filled goodness a few days beforehand :D

hey Dom :D
great to know you are coping well. i am sure you will start seeing some noticeable changes soon. it all happen so quickly :D

i am really surprised about the pot noodle incident. i wouldn't have guessed. i noticed baked beans really mess my ligs up last month so i have purposefully avoided them since my last adjustment but i honestly don't know how long i can carry this on for as i love my beans :D. i have not had a curry since i had my lowers fitted 9 and a half weeks ago. i am considering having one the night before i go in for my adjustment lol. regarding your ligs, can you not pop in to the ortho and have them changed? mine told me i can come in anytime and get my ligs and wire changed free of charge as they are aware the ligs do stain depending on what you eat and the white wire does lose its coating after a while.

looking forward to the 2 week progress pics this weekend :D
i still need to get around to writing "my story". will see if i can get one up this weekend.

Gah, baked beans do it too? I thought I already had them and didn't notice anything. I've definitely had Heinz spaghetti in the same tomato sauce, so I wonder...

Free to get ligatures changed? I didn't realise it'd be free! I'd better check with him on that, as it might be worth doing. My mum says it's not really noticeable, but I can see it and I know my progress pictures will. Ah well, my Week 2 pics will definitely have it visible, but I may get them changed before my first adjustment if it is indeed free. As for the white wire losing coating, I never had a white wire in the first place :(

I'd love to read your story when you write it :D

How are your teeth feeling, mine are still sore but not as bad.

My teeth are feeling fine, actually, BetsyBug. I'm quite surprised how used to the braces I am now. I often forget I have them, and a few times I've eaten and forgotten as well. I'll be eating a meal and halfway through I'll suddenly realise, "Oh, I should be being careful with my braces!"

They were a bit achey a few days ago, but it's not a bad feeling. In fact, I like to feel they're actually doing something! Sensitivity has also basically gone. I can eat mostly fine (I haven't tried really hard stuff yet), and biting my front teeth together doesn't cause any pain :)

I'll take some photos tomorrow. I hope some movement is visible!

Well I don't think the intention is keeping us as miserable as possible, so I am assuming feeling ok, is a good thing!! so :jump: :jump:
My teeth have hurt off and on, but today I woke up with no pain, in fact was able to eat breakfast without any ache as well. Yay!!!

I am forcing myself not to dwell on my teeth today (so i'll be dwelling on everyone elses) so yes...you need to post some pics and I will analyze for you and see if there has been any movement (i'm sure there has) :)

Nooo! I was doing so well... I was eating and bit something harder than I thought it was, and it slipped into the gap as I bit down. It bent the lower and upper wires big time! They both came right out of the brackets at the end. It was a mess.

I managed to push them back in and they look like they did, but I'm worried they no longer have the same tension as before, so I made an emergency appointment for tomorrow to get them checked. While I'm there I may as well get the ligatures changed too.

I'll try and take my 2 week photos, but I may not be able to upload till the next day as I'm out all evening. I'll try and update when I can!

Oh Dom.... so sorry about your wire incident... at least you were able to get everything back into place, and no perm damage. At least this will get in you and get some bright new ligs :)
