FYI...
Crest pro health stains, bad. Do a quick search on yahoo or google. I had horrible staining, and the only thing to get rid of them is a trip to the dentist.
my dentist told me on monday that mouthwash will stain and i should avoid it. i thought he was talking nonsense but now you say it too, i am wondering. as said earlier, i am using oral-b anti plaque which also blue colour. i must admit i have not noticed any staining yet from the mouthwash so i am just ignoring his advice and following the advice of my ortho.
I have the clear brackets on and was warned about staining from foods, but didn't think my mouth wash could stain too. I use Total Complete with whitening, I better change that quick!

I use ACT but I switched and to Crest and based on the scary reviews I need to get back to ACT. I have to use the mouthwash since having braces makes my mouth feel so nasty.

I use Listerine total care (regular). Sometimes I dilute it with a bit of water, it can be harsh but for some reason it helps when I have scratches inside my mouth.

I'm also in the UK and use Colgate FluoriGard Daily mouthwash as recommended by my dentist and Pearldrops party sparkle toothpaste.

Hi everybody. I'm experimenting with different things. Having all this metal in my mouth really kind of leaves a :yuck: feeling in mouth. Is there a toothpaste that helps with teeth sensitivity? I have Scope Outlast mouthwash i really like that but what about whitening toothpaste. I don't drink coffee, dark sodas or anything like that but would like whiter teeth. Can't find the ACT blue. Is the ACT green any good the bottle says flouride rinse and works to prevent cavities? This is the 2nd time I'm in braces and this time I really would like to get it right :D

I would recommend you skip the whitening toothpastes. They have grit in them that basically sands your teeth every time you use it. Not only does this weaken your enamel, it also contributes to sensitivity. I have never seen a dentist yet who recommends the use of any whitening product.

It is getting more and more difficult to find a toothpaste that is just fluoride toothpaste. One of the last holdouts is Colgate. Just plain old Colgate in the red box, with no whitening stuff, no extra mouthwash stuff and no sensitivity stuff. That's what I've been using for years.

As for mouthwash, I never used it until I had the braces put on. The ortho gave me Phos-Flur Grape flavor because they ran out of mint. I tried to use it, but found the flavor to be nauseating. I found the mint flavor on the open market and am using that.

I found that as long as I kept my teeth clean and flossed and brushed the entire inside of my mouth whenever I brushed....my tongue, inside my cheeks, under my tongue and between the gums and cheeks...I did not have a problem with bad breath or dry mouth. The only reason I use the Phos-Flur now is because the ortho recommended it to prevent decalcification.

If you are concerned with surface staining of your teeth, brush with hydrogen peroxide once a week. It won't damage your enamel and it will bleach most staining. There is absolutely nothing wrong with the natural ivory color of healthy, clean teeth. Regardless of what advertising and pop culture have to say about it.

Thanks for reply oldbikerbag. I will go to market and find plain Colgate. Everything I put my hand on says "whitening". Will also look for Phos-Flur if I can't locate will get in touch with my ortho before next adjustment appt. And you are right when scrubbing tongue, gum line and cheek mouth feels better and fresher; and next to my mom you are the only other person I know to use hydrogen peroxide on teeth wow :D . Once again thank you so much for response.
