First day braces been in 2 hours now!!

#1 Post by deeley »

Well I am 37 and two hours ago I got my brace on my top teeth that I should have been brave enough to have when I was a teenager.

I have the 6 month smile system which is a clear brace on my top teeth.
Just had my first drink and bowl of soup. My very crooked tooth already felt almost wobbly which was strange, and there is a dull ache across the whole of my front jaw.

Wax is magical, as was a few spikes areas that seem to have been eased. Loaded with painkillers and expecting pain and ulcers tomorrow based on reading this forum :(

Advice/support very welcome.

Should be removed hopefully for my birthday in mid December. Fingers (but definitely not teeth) crossed.

Have just practised talking, touch wood ok so far.
Have yet to attempt brushing!
My work involves talking a lot in front of audience. Tomorrow will be a challenge I think.

Congrats on your braces deeley :) I'm sure talking in front of people will be a little challenging at first but it will be worth it when you get your birthday present this year!!

Hehe brace buddy. How is your mouth today? I have a real ache going on but I guess ache=moving teeth so that's all good!

:-1 My logic exactly! Still, I hope they feel a little better for you soon :) My mouth's a bit achey too, but it's stopped bleeding now, so it's all good

Just managed a proper tea! Spag Bol very chopped up, fabulous. A fork clanking a brace hurts though doesn't it!!

This brings back memories. Although I still have braces... I remember when I first got them and how much discomfort I was in. At first, I had very loose teeth, soreness, and pain from poking wires. Now, my teeth are no longer loose, and the soreness is only felt mildly after an adjustment. I rarely need medication to relieve pain anymore. As far as poking wires causing me issues... before I leave the orthodontist's office, after each adjustment, I feel (with my fingers) for any wires sticking out... and if there are any, I let her or her assistant know and they fix it. I realize there are other things that can poke and drive you crazy--brackets and hooks, to be specific... soon your mouth will "toughen up" and these things will no longer be bothersome. Well, that's my story! Congrats and welcome!
