Hi,

Just a quick intro as per the rules. In a few months I'm due to start with top lingual braces and bottom ceramics to correct a deep bite and crowding on the bottom. I'm a bit apprehensive about the whole thing and at the age of 37 I've waited a while to do it, but better late than never I suppose! :D

Registered on here initially to research what I'm in for - as you do, but will no doubt be participating once the treatment starts!

Thanks for the welcome!

I have an appointment to get the moulds taken in 3 weeks time, then I guess they get sent off for the linguals to be made so it will probably be 6 or 8 weeks after that before they are fitted? The plan is to fit the top linguals first in order to move the top front incisors up so there is room to fit the bottom ceramics because currently my deep bite would mean the top incisors would hit the bottom brackets. Does this sound about right?

Anyway... Still plenty of time to mull it over.... Hopefully I won't chicken out!

Yip, that sounds exactly right :)

Well done for considering braces, I really hope you decide to go through with it, im 6 months into treatment now (upper linguals, traditional bottoms) and have never looked back.

Just to set your mind at ease about linguals in case you have any concerns ( i was petrified!)

Eating: is a piece of cake (Haha) after a couple of weeks
Talking: i was really worried about this. I must admit it was a teeny bit difficult for the first couple of days and after that I had nothing but a slight lisp. A month in I didnt notice any difference at all in my speech! Ones body adapts so quickly its amazing!
Comfort: I actually prefer the linguals to the traditionals as they dont come into contact with my lips and cause ulcers!

So there you go :)

keep us posted

I have been warned they might have to put buildups on the molars for a while to stop the bottom teeth contacting the top brackets which will no doubt make eating a little err 'different' for a while but from what I have read you get used to this quite quickly?

Yeah, more worried about the speech and the mouth ulcers. I guess speech is just a case of practice, so not insurmountable! I do tend to suffer from mouth ulcers anyway (Crohns) so am expecting them... But on the plus I'm used to dealing with them so let them do their worst! :D

Right, well the top linguals are planned for the 21st August and the bottom ceramics a week after that on the 28th. So I've got 4 weeks to make the most of chewy stuff I guess :D
