Headed toward being a brace face!

#1 Post by furious george »

I'm a 36 year old female, I've got my spacers in and will be getting the full show next week.

I'll be getting ceramic on top, metal on bottom. My expected treatment time is 14 months, and it sounds like I'm fairly lucky in that regard. I'm mainly correcting large gaps between my teeth (diastema?), especially between my lateral incisors and canines (I have huge tooth sized gaps there, it looks like I'm missing teeth even though I'm not) and some bite issues. Something about my top teeth hanging down too much and my bottom teeth sticking up too much, and an overjet. Sorry, about my iffy terminology, this has been like learning a new language. Anyway, I have a crown on one of my central incisors from breaking it in half as a child. I'll be having that redone when it's all finished.

Just wanted to say hi!

Hi there :-) I haven't started yet either! I have a midline (upper) diastema which I am trying to address-have been told an estimate of 9 months *fingers crossed* that stays the case. Had tried for Clearstep but was told it would just relocate the gap between my canines :-( and would still take 16 months :-(

Can I just say that the spacers don't hurt, but they may annoy me to death. Something tells me I'm just going to looove the actual braces. I wanted Invisalign so bad...alas, it wasn't in the cards.

Hi :) I'm getting my braces on the 18th... I'm actually really excited because I know it's the start of an awesome journey for nice, straight, perfect teeth :)

I just took some pictures, I'll post them as soon as I can. My teeth don't look that bad in real life, but they look super janky in photos (the crown really stands out), which always seems to convince me that I'm doing the right thing when I start to worry.

My parents keep telling me it's stupid and a waste of money. I guess that's the whole reason I'm doing this as an adult, right? Ha!

Oh man the spacers were awful for me! But I have NO space in my mouth at all to begin with.

The big difference between the spacers and braces, for me, was knowing that I could've easily removed the spacers myself so the temptation to just pull those things out was there the whole time. With the braces you know you're stuck with them so you end up getting over it
Central Ossifying Fibroma removed from mandible 3/8/2012, braced 5/24/2012, One piece Le Fort I performed 12/11/2013, debraced 8/26/2014

Here you go...now that I can post pictures, you can see what I'm dealing with.

I missed the details on my teeth outside of "deep bite/overbite" and "overjet" and "diastema" and something about my lower teeth being raised up too much. However, from the looks of it, the overjet is pretty significant (any guesses on mm?).

Part of the reason I never got braces as a teen was because they told me my teeth were straight but gappy, and that the braces wouldn't fix my overbite (that I would need jaw surgery to do so). If I'm not mistaken, I'm now being told that I actually will get a significant amount of correction from them. I am pretty excited about that.

I'm going for 2nd consult w/oral surgeon on Thursday. I hope to be started by the end of the summer, if not next month. Ideally, I'd like to get the SARPE done Labor Day weekend, get the braces, and then have the lower jaw done over the holidays in 2013. This is scary, but exciting! Thanks to all of you for this amazing forum!
