no more white wire!

no more white wire!
Here is a picture of my supposedly white coated wire on the day before my adjustment. As you can see, the coating is completely gone. As it turned out, it was probably good preparation for my adjustment yesterday........
Note also the gap between my central incisors. My ortho created the gap by doing some IPR at my previous adjustment and the gap had not closed at all in the intervening 6 weeks.

Re: no more white wire!
I had my 3rd adjustment yesterday. My ortho did not do any IPR this time but placed a clear powerchain across just my two central incisors to close the gap created by previous IPR. The gap has closed literally overnight in just 12 hours.
My ortho noted that my previous wires had been coated wires and said that she wanted to place a Damon wire size 18 this time. I assume the previous wires were generic niti and that this one is an actual Damon branded one. I don't know what difference that will make. I forgot to ask whether it is niti or stainless steel. Anyway, it is silver coloured rather than white, so my previous completely stripped white wire was good preparation for my new look!

Re: no more white wire!
Thank you Lau,
I am at 4 1/2 months and my estimate was 6-9 months. My progress has been fairly slow, so I expect to be at the top end of that estimate or maybe longer.
I posted a story in the My Story section under the heading "sectional brace" shortly after I started but have not kept it up and may start a new one under my username if I can find time.

Re: no more white wire!
I started out the first few months with a white wire, but lately they have been using a plain metal one. The colour was mostly gone by my next appointment anyway.
Re: no more white wire!
My dentist will be using Woowa wire, which I have seen after 5 weeks with no peeling!

Re: no more white wire!
Hi Angel269,
I have never heard of WooWa wire but will do a google search to see how they manage to maintain the coating.
I think my brace is more obvious with a silver wire, but I have had much better progress with this wire than the previous ones, so I am not unhappy with it. It may be that it is just coincidence with the stage of treatment I have reached.
I think my treatment will also end up at around 9 months, similar to yours.
Good luck with getting your brace. For me it was very quick and easy and not at all uncomfortable or painful. I'm sure you will find it equally easy.

Re: no more white wire!
I know it is available through something like Ortho Care, a UK based Ortho supplier. Looks really good after that length, I will be getting adjustment monthly.
I feel even more nervous now that I know I am having a removable bite plate in addition to my upper fixed to address my overbite so that my upper arch can be bought in more and my midline diastema closed. Am really dreading speech difficulties from that in addition to my fixed brace
