Finally Got Braces at 21

Hi all. So i finally got my braces on. After months of waiting to get appointments with my dentist for fillings and stuff.
I got them yesterday.
I knew exactly what to expect as i had done lost and lots of research on this site, through friends and family who have had braces and youtube about the procedure etc.

It went on. I felt pressure. But it was the spacers i think that really caused the pain (when eating) I got my 1st set of bands on my upper jaw. But couldn't get them on the lower ones bcuz of lack of space. Hence the spacers. So i have 4 spacers below and 2 on top...(to make room for my 2nd set of bands ontop.)

I survived the day, barely...had to drink nutritional drinks...tried to have a burger (broken up in pieces then placed in my mouth) Wasn't happening. i Got to almost half then give up from the pain.

Today i woke up with my face hurting...the pain from both my upper and lower jaw was bothersome to say the least. I couldn't even rest my teeth on each other (place the upper jaw on the lower jaw). I think i got a headache from the pain...

I had half a banana for breakfast. Then could take the pain anymore. (I squashed the banana b4 putting it in my mouth and it was still to painfull to eat)

So for lunch and dinner i had mashed potatoes.

Took me about 15mins each time to brush my teeth after...But their nice and clean now..>The brackets weren't that dirty bcuz of how i was eating stuff.

Eventually after lunch i took a painkiller..and was able to have dinner...I go back on the 12th to have my 1st lower bands placed and my 2nd upper bands.

SO yeah that's my story. BTW I'm female...The name's nikki. 21yrs old with an overbite, large diastema and bucked teeth...(yeah i know terrible)

Welcome Nikki, glad to hear you're getting your teeth taken care of. I know what you mean about doing research - for about a month I was highly obsessed with researching everything about braces. Sorry to hear, though, that you're in pain from them. I haven't had much pain from the braces, but for me the spacers were quite painful.

Keep us updated on your progress. While I do read the stories posted on here from people who are quite far along in their treatment, I really enjoy hearing from others who like me have just gotten started. Hang in there and I'm sure things will get better!

I do enjoy the stories as well. The painkiller I took this evening is holding up. Been painfree for most of the evening.

Welcome to the board and congratulations on starting your braces journey. Sorry to hear that you're in pain, but at least you know things are on the move! I, oddly enough, haven't experienced any pain with my braces. I'm hoping to feel some movement after my first adjustment.
What kind of braces do you have? Did you go metal or opt for ceramics?

I got the metal ones. It was cheaper. And I wish I was one of you lucky ones that don't get pain! ℓσℓ. Oh well st least I can focus on the positive which is a nicer smile.

Welcome and congrats on getting braces and starting your journey. This site is great and you will have lots of support on here. I continue to browse the site and look at others stories while I await my journey to start on June 26th at 10am with my impressions. I am 26 and am finally getting the chance to get the braces I have needed for years!!! I hope your pain gets better and keep us posted!!

OMG...you all are so nice on here. I was kinda skeptical about registering but i am pleasantly surprised.
Today is much better. Not too much pain. I have started to chew soft foods now (Mash potatoes AGAIN) lol.
I still cant chew harder foods (rice and meat) without a little pain and discomfort but its not as bad as it was yesterday. From the way things are going now, I shouldn't need any painkillers today.


Glad to see you are taking the first step to getting where you want to be.
I know i was excited to finally get my braces.
And so far people around me have been nice for lack of a better word. I dont know. But i guess i kinda thought they would be teasing me or mean or something. I guess its because I'm not in school or anything and because i'm older and the people around me is older too *shrugs*. I dont know. But it wasn't the reaction i was expecting but again another pleasant surprise.

I want to post some pics. Can someone tell me how? lol

It is a How Do I section and within that topic it is a topic on how to post pics of your braces and progress. I think it is even a section where you can test your pics out before you actually put them within your message. Also within that topic of How Do I it explains how to add the Ticker some people have showing how long they have had their braces. I hope this helps.

So i finally got to seven post. Yay me . So i added my ticker. hope i did it right. *crosses fingers* lets see

OK finally got to adding some pics..I do not see any changes (Its only about 10 days) lol..I keep checking the mirror everyday but its like they say a watch pot never boils...I do feel some changes tho. Some teeth are actually starting to touch (upper and lower jaw alignment) But thats as far as the changes goes... I hope my teeth cooperate so that i can be out of braces sooner rather than later.



So i had to have a left premolar extracted prior to braces. I have no idea why though. Because i already have a lot of space between my teeth that needs to be brought together. And i think this will add more space. But i guess the ortho knows best. I'll be sure to ask him why tomorrow.




This is day 5...I really didnt take any open mouth pics on day 1.

I dont like them...I think they are too bland...but i also dont want to draw extra attention to my teeth with like a florescent colour.

I dont know...But this blue blends in..Because for the people that didnt know i got braces they finally realized on their own about a week later (always when i was eating) lol...IF it wasnt for having to place food in my mouth in tiny pieces they'd still all be in the dark :p

My best friend just got them and she has light purple. I think that is the color Im going to start off with and then I was thinking red. I have about a month to decide. Lol bc right now Im ready for this extraction site to heal some before I go for my impressions in 2 weeks.
