Do Damon Clear stain?

#1 Post by starfish88 »

I'm getting my braces on on the 28th and I'm a bit confused because all the info on the damon site say that these brackets do not stain and don't need ligatures which stain but I've seen a lot of reports of people saying that these brackets do stain. I'm confused. I love curry so much and quite like red wine and coffee too so I'm really worried. It will be hard to go for the next 18 months or so without a curry. Doesn't help that I've just had my wisdom teeth out and with the healing I probably won't get a chance of a 'farewell' curry. Thanks for any advice.

Yeah, I've also read lots of people saying that the clear braces stain but I think that they are confusing the clear brackets with the clear ligatures. The ligs stain, the brackets don't. I suppose it could happen if you have really poor oral hygiene, though. I have clear ceramic uppers and they are not in the least bit stained after three months. However I don't eat curry, drink wine or coffee so I'm probably not the best example there. Drinking coffee and tea through a straw will help reduce risk of staining and brushing your teeth right after eating curry or drinking wine reduce the risk there.

The brackets don't stain. My glue stained around the bracket and I have been in powerchain ligs for a year so those stain easily. I don't see the point in my no lig brackets because for 75% of my treatment I have needed powerchains lol

I have 3m unitek clarity brackets

The brackets don't stain, the glue around them does. It is this tiny darker circle around each bracket. It can be seen maybe within 3 feet and closer. :? :(

I've had Damon clears on my upper 10 for almost 10 months now and have absolutely NO staining at all. Not on the brackets and not on the glue. Ligs aren't necessary with self-ligating braces so I don't have to worry about them. I haven't avoided eating any foods during my tenure with braces either. I do have good dental hygiene habits though.

Thank you, its reassuring to know I shouldn't have to give up all my favourite foods all of which turn out to be staining (I added beetroot to the list - yummy!). If I get powerchains I'll just have to time my enjoyment of these thing to before appointments and get them changed after I suppose. There is no way I could have gone 18 months without curry, glad I won't be rocking day-glow yellow braces though!

So jealous. I cannot get rid of the glue stain. I floss and brush multiple times a day. I don't have ligs either. Do you drink coffee?

I AM JEALOUS TOO. I drink coffee and green tea and mine were stained within days. I hated it, looked like my teeth were dirty, now with powerchains for last year least I can't see the stain but I know its there under this. Thank gosh I am almost done though, I am sooooo sick of thinking about staining foods, I want to have mustard and curry and more curry and red sauces and just not think.....hmmmmm will this stain my braces?

I would suggest to anyone getting braces INCASE to not have coffee a couple hours after like I did LOL maybe it was not cured yet

Hi again.

I'm not a frequent coffee drinker, but I have some 4 or 5 times a week. I do drink tons of tea and iced tea. I'm not much of a pop drinker. I do drink tons of water and an assortment of juices though.I really don't pay much attention to what I drink anymore as it relates to my braces. I didn't have any cautions from my orthodontist about it either. Maybe I'm just lucky. I just assumed it was normal.

Try brushing your teeth with hydrogen peroxide. I know it helps with surface stains on the teeth themselves, maybe it will help with stains on the glue. It takes more than one treatment for this to work.

The hydrogen peroxide feels nasty and has a very slightly bitter taste, but won't harm you. Just don't swallow it if you can keep from it.

I've had my damon clear braces on my top teeth for almost 3 weeks. I was a little bit worried about the staining as well. But so far, I haven't seen any staining on the brackets or the glue. I love curry as well and the first time I had it, I was nervous that it would stain and I had no trouble with it. I also drink tea and sometimes have coffee and no trouble there either. The other night I made a salad out of beet root and was a little concerned, but it didn't stain.

A friend of mine has had damon clear on her top teeth since December and she drinks red wine and was concerned, but she asked the orthodontist and he said nothing stains them. She said she hasn't had any staining. Like other people are saying, it seems to be clear powerchains and elastics that stain, not the brackets. I am lucky and don't have ligatures with my brackets. I also have no elastics or powerchains...at this point anyway. Good luck :)

Thats good. I meant to make beetroot salad as my last meal before braces but forgot so I'm glad I won't have to waste it.

I was told that curry may stain them yet I've had lots of curry without a problem.
