Finally started the journey, with 4 extractions

#1 Post by brace33 »

It was the BIG day for me yesterday. Braces on in the morning and extractions done in the afternoon.

Putting on braces is way less uncomfortable than I had expected. They chose a weak wire to begin with of course. But I can talk normally and smile normally afterwards. I even had a normal lunch, just a little slower than before.

I had extractions of four 2nd pre-molars in the afternoon of the same day. I had concerned about this schedule in the beginning. But thanks to the feedback from this forum, I had realized that it was not a big deal to have them on the same day. I read a lot of posts about the extractions. But when it came to me, it really surprised me, because it only took my general dentist 20 min to finish all four extractions. Local Anastasia. No pain or discomfort throughout the process. I didn't even feel any pain after the numbness is gone a few hours later.

The only bad thing that happened to me was the "liver clot" in one site. This is a malformed clot in the socket. It appears dark red and gel-like. It appearance is similar to a piece of liver--hence the name. After removing it per my dentist's instruction, it started to bleed more. I had to use the gauze for 3 hours to stop the bleeding.

But after all, I had a good night of sleep and I am feeling all right today.Eating might be challenging for the next few days. But not a bad experience so far.

Had my first floss today. Not bad. It took me 15 min using the threader. A little sore. But I am still eating liquid food due to the extraction. The real challenge might start after starting solid food.

I had 4 extractions on 21-Jul-2012... I still can't eat normally. My ortho is making me wait 7 days before she puts my wire on. Just three more days!

Wow, your day was intense  I hope that your extraction sites are healing well and that you've been able to eat something. I feel pretty confident in saying that the hardest part is out of the way. Best of luck on your journey :D
