Re: Can I get BRACES and keep all my teeth?

Hey guys,

Thanks again for all your responses, past and more recently. I've been (upper) braced for almost two months now and I couldn't be happier with the decision I've made.
I ended up going to 5 consultations; 1st Ortho, who uses the damon system didn't want to pull any teeth but said my top teeth would end up flared... No thank you.
2nd Ortho wanted to pull 4 bicuspids--that scared the wits out of me so I thanked him and declined.
3rd Ortho also wanted to pull 4 bicuspids and though I understand that this practice is quite commonplace I just don't see how it would be necessary in my case, so again I declined.
4th Ortho I really liked, not because he was esp. nice but the office was so small and cozy but right in the heart of one of Toronto's most vibrant neighbourhoods, unfortunately he wanted to pull 3 teeth...2 bicuspids from the top and one from the bottom (makes noo sense to me because my bottom teeth are pretty much in a perfect arch)
Onto to Ortho #5... Lovliest of the bunch, spends the entire consult with me, takes photos and throughly inspects my bite and decides only one tooth needs to be pulled (upper right 1st bicuspid) in order to a) bring down my wayward canine and b) to center my midline.
So yes, I ended up with an extraction but I couldn't be happier with my Orthodontist or my treatment plan.

Again thanks to all of you that put your two cents in to help me make my decision. Much appreciated:)
-Gabrielle
