Good to see you back on this board. When I was first considering getting a fixed brace, there were few people from the UK on this board and your story gave me courage to go ahead. I am glad to hear you have almost finished your treatment. From what I recall of your story, it has not been entirely straightforward.

Oh 43 days left and I am so done. I was on vacation 4 hrs away and realized last night that my elastic was around my wire??? How could that be, did I drink too much vodka, inhale too much campfire smoke, heat stroke???? Did my wire become magical?? NOPE it was broken. HORROR worst possible thing on my lower right side where a tooth really needs to move still. Sooooo called the ortho this morning, of course ortho is on holidays next week so I HAD to come in today or Thursday but they said ASAP, so I had 30min to pack up and hit the road with 2 kids (not mine. watching my nephews) Made it just in time. Not only was it broken but in 2 places OMFG I couldn't even see the first break no idea where 2nd one was. I had the wire for 1 whole year NO WONDER...All the vodka it has been doused in, it was bound to happen right?? &*$#^$#@^$@(#@*(#@* OKAY so I have to hit the road again but after that I am not leaving my ortho for the next 43 days til these horrible things are out. No more JiFFY POP for me...shhhhhhh don't tell. I think it was the vodka and they say these things happen lol

Oh I have spaces where I am NOT suppose to have spaces YIKES, I hope this new wire doesn't create chaos, only 1 more adjustment in 3 weeks to fix anything left to fix.

My story is that our brackets and wires are SO old, they're bound to break. Oh, and maybe the vodka had something to do with it, too...

Guess what? I'm probably getting debraced next month!! He said if I'm happy with them at my next appointment on 8/3, he'd go ahead and schedule the debracing. I'm gonna go post my story now.

Okay so its been a couple days with the new wire OMFG I have sooooo many spaces and just a bloody mess on the bottom. No idea if my debrace date will be changed now. Also the adjustment before he bent my wire on front upper tooth and its looks soooo bad and funky. I really need this things off or a lot of shaving to even things out LOL. My ortho is off this week so I got an appointment next week (week early) to see what the heck is going on. I have soooo many plans for the weekend after my debrace date and I don't think I could handle another day in these things.I am mentally prepared for 38 more days, so I guess we will see. My teeth feel gross and need to be deep cleaned. I just want normal teeth again. lol. Patience is soooo hard.

The countdown continues. Yesterday I had all 8 molar bands removed and my wire cut. I have no idea why he removes in these stages but I think its to get the molars to set on their own and then 2 weeks later your brackets are removed......BUT NOT ME.... they are on vacation so instead of getting them removed Aug 15th I have to wait to the 22nd oh well I am trying to think they will just be more stable when brackets come off.

So the removal of the bands was quite nasty I must say. They were cemented REALLY REALLY well and the snapping sound was horrible. I was giggling in fear and kinda screamed OHHHHH a few times. Felt kinda sorry for the kid next to me that was getting their brackets on LOL. Even the assistant was surprised how well glued they were, said there was no way those things were ever coming out. I think it was nice to have molar bands removed first that way hopefully the brackets removal won't seem so long. It took maybe 40 min to have last adjustment, remove bands and scrap glue and then new powerchains and stuff. Kinda getting sick of people in my mouth.

Having 8 free SMOOTH teeth is very nice. No sharp edges on the bands to poke my lips or my tongue. I flossed last night and it was so weird, they are still gappy from the bands being there 600 days but they will close up fast. Oh I saw my teeth again without the wire and they look so funny, HUGE!!

My wire was cut so it is ONLY active on my front 6 teeth top and bottom. WEIRD RIGHT!! and then its wire tied to remaining 2 teeth on each side. I have powerchains top and bottom AND double elastics each side. OVERLAPPING TRIANGLES. So like 2 As on each side to keep everything closed and my bite tight in place. I can barely open my mouth LOL and got a huge canker sore overnight.

So I still hate my braces but I kind of have a peaceful feeling knowing the end is near. I went to take some pictures and my camera battery was dead. I used to take hundreds of pics and now don't even know where my camera is half the time. I have not been myself the last 20 months, I have not enjoyed taking pictures or going out, eating or anything really. I am looking forward to not feeling so awkward. I hope the next 19 days go quickly as I will be busy with house guests and entertaining kids.

Hope everyone is enjoying their summer!! Having corn on the cob this weekend LOL (not on the cob of course, I will have to take it off) but will be nice to not worry about eating.

Elle, this sums up my feelings to a "T". My ortho asked me today (again!) what was the occasion coming up for which I wanted my braces off. I told him, "No occasion. I'm just tired of them, already." he remembered that I had a wedding to attend, and I said, "No, that was LAST month."

Can't say I'm looking forward to getting my molar bands off, but thankfully, I only have two. Hang in there, sister!

AWWW thanks Lilone. 14 hrs 27 min 16 sec to be exact. OMFG I am soooo excited. I am trying to not think about it, I was up at 3am-6am too anxious to sleep. My powerchain is a nasty yellow barf colour, I am almost out of elastics, I have a sore in my mouth and just done with the whole experience. I will have a crazy busy day tomorrow, up at 6am to get to appointment and then traveling after that. So I hope I can post some pics. Anyways off to dinner, last public outing in braces.

OMG they are OFF!!!!!!!!!!! And I can not believe how awesome it feels to not have braces in my mouth. It wasn't too bad having the brackets clipped off my yuckkk the scrapping was horrible and I almost gagged on my spit and I just wanted her to stop touching my mouth. LOL. I go back for retainers and polishing and shaping in a couple hours but wow my mouth feels SOOOOO EMPTY, I can close my mouth, I can't stop licking my teeth. I AM THRILLED, it feels like a big weight is off my shoulders and I can smile again. The few teeth I wasn't overly happy with look fine without a wire and bracket on them. Because I opted to not have jaw surgery I still have an overbite but instead of 10 mm only maybe 2 mm.

They are actually whiter then I thought. A bit sensitive so I am not going to try to whiten or a professional cleaning for a few weeks just my favorite oral b whitening polishing toothbrush.

I didn't sleep last night again so I am exhausted, going to finish my timmys coffee (all you canadians know a good coffee) and then post a couple pics, when I get home in a couple weeks I will post some pics after he has shaped them too.
