General dentist - frequency of visits

#1 Post by Bezza »

How often do you go to your general dentist when wearing braces?

I used to go every 12 months before my braces which was fine but since I've had braces they've changed it to every 6 months but should I be going more often than that? It seems like a really long time!

I'm in the UK so my dentist is NHS. 6 month check ups are the norm and I haven't gone any more often with braces.

Six months is normal--I have heard that some braces wearers even go every 3 months!

I go every 6 months and it's working great...

We recommend our patients go for cleanings every 3-6 months. This is going to depend on each person and how well they keep their teeth clean. Since it is more difficult to clean around the teeth properly practicing oral hygiene at home, it's a good idea to go more often for cleanings when braced.

6 months I believe. Unless your orthodontist finds something wrong and tells you.

My orthodontist suggests every 4-6 months. Since I go every six months now without braces, I plan to go every 4 months once the braces are put on (next Wednesday).

My regular dentist recommends every six months without braces, every four with. My orthodontist said she prefers every three months with braces. Its all a matter of how careful you are at keeping your braces clean. You can be sure your ortho will say something if he/she notices that you are in need of a cleaning with your regular dentist.
