New and getting braces soon

#1 Post by leigh287 »

Hi..my name is Leigh. I am 25 years old and am scheduled to get my braces on August 6th. I will have ceramic braces on my top teeth (did not need bottom braces) and will have the braces for about nine months. About eight years ago, I had invisalign on my top teeth for about a year. Overall I was happy about my results but of course, I did not wear my retainer like I should. I was in college by time I got my retainer, I lost it and being the poor college student I was, I did not replace it. My teeth has shifted and are almost back in their original position pre-Invisalign. So this is round 2 for me with braces. I am a lot more mature and responsible this time around so I am definitely ready and excited to start the process.

Hi Leigh and welcome to the brace world!! :jump: I know you are so excited about only needing braces for about 9 months. I am about a week in and go tomorrow to get my wires and bands. I have had these spacers and brackets in for about a week now and I think the real pain will come tomorrow with the wire insertion bc I have not had any pain at all with the spacers!! Please keep us posted on your progress as you begin treatment which is not that far away!!!

Thank you :D . I am so glad it is only 9 months of treatment. Overall I am excited but I am kind of nervous at the same time. I had invisalign before so I am not really sure what to expect with ceramic braces. I know I will not be getting any sleep the night before. I am glad I found this forum..it has been very helpful with answering some of my questions.

Congrats on your braces as well and good luck with your wire insertion today! Hopefully you will not be in too much pain afterwards.
Leigh

Hey Leigh,

Well, I had my wire put in on the top today and boy oh boy I am feeling the pain and pressure, but I guess that is a good thing! I am like I guess this is payback because I did not have any pain from the spacers!

Hi Kimmie,

Sorry your wire insertion yesterday was painful. Hope you are feeling better today! I have been trying to mentally prepare myself for the pain now. Hopefully it will not be too bad.... :(

Hi Leigh!

I too am in my mid 20's and ignored my dentist's advice back in college. Though the verdict is still pending regarding my need for braces, I was advised to get invisalign at 18, but chose to take my chances, and lucked out. Now I am waiting with bated breath as my dentist analyzes my x-rays. My wisdom teeth just barely erupted through my gums without serious impaction (thus avoiding surgery), but it has the potential to trigger an overbite. Ironic that I've had no serious dental issues all my life, not even a filling, until a little over a year before my young adult medical coverage expires! :?

My follow-up is on the exact same day as your installation (8/6).

Please keep us posted, I would like to know how it turns out!

Best of luck,

Greg

Hi Greg!

Good luck with your follow up appointment. Hopefully you can get some answers soon. I had all four of my wisdom teeth removed about three years ago. All of my wisdom teeth came in straight but two of them developed cavities (my only cavities ever) and had the potential of decaying so they had to be removed.

Keep me posted on how your follow-up appointment goes.

3 days left until I get my braces :) . I am starting to get really excited but a little nervous at the same time. But I am definitely ready to get started.

My boyfriend's family reunion is tomorrow so I am going to enjoy all the food I can before Monday morning :D

Thanks Kimmie!

I am really excited. I can already tell I am going to have trouble sleeping tonight. Just a little over thirteen hours until my appointment.

I will post my before and after pictures tomorrow afternoon :D

My braces are officially on :D I am doing ok so far. I had a tiny lisp earlier but it seems to be getting better. No pain yet but I do feel a little pressure on my teeth. Overall everything is going well except eating. Eating is a bit of a process for me. I eat so slow now. Hopefully things will get better.

Also I have been applying chapstick like crazy. My lips get sooooo dried out so fast. It is driving me crazy.

They look great Leigh! I hope you are still pain free. I know the troubles you are going through with eating!
