I will. I have my first cleaning with my braces on tomorrow. We shall see how that goes. They told me they could do the cleaning with my wires in. I will report back how everything goes. I feel like I am in the dentist or ortho office like once or twice a month since I began my journey!

I just had my first cleaning a few weeks ago as well, it was pretty easy, very little scraping just a little poking to ject for soft spots then a blast from a baking soda waterpik type thingy... (yes thingy is the highly technical term lol) and they were clean and wonderful :)
good luck!

Hi All,
Well here is my report from my first dental cleaning with braces. Everything went well. I found out the gum swelling I have been dealing with for the past month has been coming from my teeth shifting and moving all over the place. I was told to just continue doing the warm salt rinses. Also I don't know if it's just me but the scraping and cleaning of my teeth sounded like finger nails going across the chalkboard. I was sitting there thinking I have never heard this sound before. I was so happy because they told me I had almost no plaque or tarter to remove. I guess that waterpik sure is working. The only crazy thing that went wrong was when they were cleaning my teeth the system they use to clean your teeth ran out of water as she was rinsing the out my mouth. The assistant was like hold on a second while I refill the system and I had to sit there with the not so good tasting paste in my mouth. I was thinking she could not refill it fast enough!! Last but not least came the fluoride treatment in which I had to pay for this time because my dental insurance only pays for a fluoride treatment once a year. I did not mind at all paying the $20 because I know with braces our teeth needs the extra fluoride. My dentist came in and said my teeth are moving along great and he saw no signs of decay. So I will be going back in another 6 months for another cleaning. Also, does anyone else teeth feel sensitive while getting a cleaning? I know to never get a tightening and a dental cleaning in the same day!! On that note of mentioning an adjustment I have my next one next Tuesday. I am hoping I get new wires. Last time on the top they did nothing but change the ligs and did some weird twisting and knotting of the wire around certain teeth and bands on my lower arch. So this time I am hoping for some new gear on the top and bottom as my top wire is the same one they put on 2 months ago. Well I hope everyone else is doing well!,

Sparkling Clean Kimmie!!!! (Are your braces really shiny now?)

You are the queen of eventful appointments :) It's fantastic that the dentist has given you such a great report!! I hope my dentist feels the same way about my teeth when I eventually get to see him...I think my appointment is not until January (but I see him in a few weeks when he pulls my teeth out so I might try to sneak a free glance over while I'm there ;))

My teeth are SUPER sensitive after cleaning. I usually use sensitive toothpaste after cleaning for a week or so and then they start feeling better (you can also start using it 2 weeks prior to the appointment so that it has already started working by the time you get there).

Another adjustment is just around the corner for you!! Have you decided on your colour/s yet?? I hope you get new wires too!!

Take care Kimmie!!!

Ciao!

Hey CC!
They really are all shiny. You know it would not be fair if I went to the dentist or ortho without anything happening. I still have not decided a color yet and Tuesday is right around the corner. The colors that are in the back of my head are teal and then black and yellow. Who knows what colors will go on these babies. Also I am really hoping for some new wires. We will see if that happens. For the past two days my molars on the bottom have been killing me. I guess there is movement going on. Well watch out for my update on Tuesday and you will hear the ortho story plus see my new colors!!!!!

Kimmie you are so brave with the colours!!! Will you ever have a pattern of colours? I saw a photo online that looked fun: purple upper left, yellow upper right, yellow lower left, purple lower right :) I can't see what you decide!!!!!!

And hopefully no more eventful appointments...just a shiny new wire!!! :D

Hope it all goes well!!! And that you have some improvement to show for that molar pain!!

Take care,
CC :D

Hi All,

Well, I have made it back from my ortho appointment. It went well today and I have some new colors!! I will post pics a little later once I upload on imageshack. Well, here is what happened today. First I guess my mouth is getting use to adjustments because it did not hurt at all to get my ligs taken off. Normally that is the most painful part, but not today. Then once those were off I waited on the ortho to come over and talk to me and boy did he lay some information on me. For one I got a NEW WIRE ON TOP (.018) and they put another one on the bottom without all the fancy creations they had the last time. My bottom is a little sore now and I am sure the pain is coming soon for the top. My next appointment is Oct 16th (the day I leave out of town on vaction back home to Georgia) and here is what will be happent then: he said he will be putting a 1 by 3 on by lower arch to start moving my canines backwards. If anyone knows what he means by a 1 by 3 please let me know but I do know it must will cause a whole lot of pain and pressure because he said it will feel like a 2 by 4 and then on the top that day he is going to start moving my molars forward and that is the reason I got the new wire today he said so I will get adjusted to the movement and pressure on top. I can tell this will be an eventful appointment. Guess I will be in pain by time I arrive to the airport for my plane and will sleep the whole way there bc I will have pain meds on board bc they even suggested me to eat a good meal and have pain meds on board this day!!! I am excited but nervous at the same time. Please if anyone out there knows about this 1 by 3 to let me know and what it consists of!! He feels my extractions sites are healed and will be able to take this pressure!! I guess I wont be able to eat much of my moms and grandma good home cooked food the way the ortho is talking!! Other than that everything went great. It was funny because one of the ortho assistants is going to visit my home state of GA next week and was asking me the best hotels to stay in. I feel so at home there and I am glad I chose the office bc the othro and the assistants are just so warm and welcoming!!!! I hope everyone else is having a good day and pics to follow in about an hour to reveal my new colors!!!

Here are my new colors everyone. I went with HOT PINK AND AQUA!! I don't know if you can tell but on my lower right canine she forgot a lig, but they told me do not worry about it when I called back to see if I needed to come back in for them to put it one. They said everything would still move as needed!!

Oh I love the aqua and pink!!! I was rushed when I picked my color so I went with the rose. My ortho was quick about getting to work so when he asked what color, I didn't get a chance to look at the color wheel, I really wanted to look at the greens in person before I picked one so I will get green next time. I have a short time between appointments now, 4 weeks instead of 6 so I don't have to wait too long for a lig change. :)

Sounds like you have a lot coming up on next months appointment. I hope that you aren't too uncomfortable for your visit to GA. I didn't realize you wer in MO, I'm in Oklahoma, not too far from each other :)

sorry, no idea what a one by three is...sounds uncomfortable though :?

Look at those beautiful teeth Kimmie!! They are looking gorgeous! And the pattern is way cool, I love it!!! :D :jump:

My teeth are going well too - I've just done a photo update and my front two teeth are almost aligned!

:yikes: A 1 by 3 doesn't sound good???!! I don't know what it is either?? But I guess it will mean a lot of movement! :)

What a shame your appointment is at such an inconvenient time! Your mum and Grandma sound like amazing cooks!! My sister in law is living in Australia but she is from Texas and my mouth drools at the thought of her cooking!!! YUM!! (plus I guess it is a whole lot different to things that we would normally eat in Australia so it is such a treat!!) I hope they have some really scrumptious fish recipes to cook for you!!!!

I have to dash now but will talk again soon!! :) Take care!
