Have you given up sugary food altogether?

Have you given up sugary food altogether?
This has probably been asked before but... do you try and avoid sugar altogether? Or do you allow yourself treats now and then, like chocolate or lollies etc?
I seem to be finding it hard, and obviously don't want to do any damage to my teeth down the track.

Unfortunately not... I have given up everything that can get stuck in the braces, but I'm still eating lots of soft chocolate.
Re: Have you given up sugary food altogether?
I was really good the first couple of weeks of getting braced... now I've had my braces for a month, and I'm caving into the cravings!
I feel guilty! lol

Hey Kingy--I eat everything except the real problems--like popcorn, chewy caramel and frozen stuff (I used to freeze candy bars and then eat them). Basically, I eat anything that I don't think will break my brackets off.
If you eat chocolate, just make sure you brush afterward to get the sugary off around the brackets etc.
Enjoy away!

At first I was all for no more fizzy drinks and sugary foods but it soon died. I pretty much eat everything I did prior to braces and that includes chocolate and other sugary stuff. The only things I avoid are popcorn, tough chewy meat, chewy sweets/hard boiled sweets, chewing gum (I tried it once in the beginning and it got stuck to my braces)... that's all I can think of right now.

I eat reese peanut butter cups, and gummy bears (which is a major addiction of mine).. so no, haven't avoided the sweets or soda.
Re: Have you given up sugary food altogether?
Do you guys worry about damage though? Like, when you get your braces off & your teeth might be marked where the brackets were?
I was good at first, lately though I've been eating lollies lol

Nope. I haven't given up "all" sugary foods. I wont eat anything sugary that may get stuck in wires. I eat plain m&m's; even the m&M's with peanuts just bite down real easy. I even eat pretzel SPAM SPAM SPAM SPAM SPAM very carefully and floss afterwards. No popcorn, caramel, gummy bears or things like that even though before braces these were my favorites. Gotta treat yourself some times. Lol

Nope, I eat anything I want. Corn on the cob, candy, popcorn. I don't do it all the time. Maybe once in a blue moon :)

Re: Have you given up sugary food altogether?
i just avoid anything that is sticky cus trying to clean that out may make me lose a bracket / break the powerchain...
Re: Have you given up sugary food altogether?
Hell no, I need chocolate! I don't bite into anything and avoid crunchy stuff.
